Sufferer Recent Diagnosis. Subject Of Physical And Mental Abuse Whilst At "therapeutic Boarding School"

New Here
I was recently diagnosed with ptsd, though it is something I have long suspected has been an issue.

I started having emotional/behavioral difficulties when I was about 15 years old, mostly depression and anxiety related. I was sent to a "therapeutic boarding school" when I was 16, and was subject to large amounts of physical and emotional abuse when I there, both from other kids and staff. I spent about 18 months there.

Recently (past year or so), a lot of issues surrounding this time in my life have cropped up (insomnia, hypervigilance, flashbacks, nightmares, etc). I've started seeing a therapist, but I have an extremely hard time trusting and being candid any sort of treatment professional as a byproduct of my past experiences.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can find some support on here. Sorry if I seem detached or vague about my experiences, it's just not something I like discussing in detail (which I'm sure is a familiar feeling on here).

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of support here. Its a very welcoming and supportive community.

Don't be sorry discussing your trauma is hard we all understand that.

Hi, I was also at a "therapeutic boarding school" where I experienced mental/physical abuse daily from staff. I spent 4 1/2 months there before I was "pulled". I made this account after seeing your post to let you know you aren't alone.

Thanks |23|31 |-|0|30. It is hard to find people who know about that kind of thing, it's a fairly foreign concept to most people.

cb1989, I think it's not a thing most people know about because when "students" get out it isn't something they want to talk about with others. I mean when someone hears the term "therapeutic boarding school" it sounds positive and helpful, however that is as far removed a description of what these places actually are. The phrases "child prison" and "forced labor camp" are much more accurate descriptions imho. On a slightly positive note it seems that quite a few of these programs have been closed down in the last couple years.
