Hello... I'm trying to learn about as much about ptsd, recognizing triggers and why I dissociate after something triggers me. I was triggered on mother's day of this year so I am really uneducated about ptsd and all that comes with the diagnosis. Although I have been in therapy for 20+ years and have received many misdiagnoses, I can say that with the knowledge I do have about it, i can confident I do have ptsd. It's just really hard to understand why someone didn't recognize it earlier. I had no idea that i was dissociating or that the reason for my dissociation, and bizarre behavior was because of triggers. I had no Idea what a trigger was or how to recognize them (and really still don't know much). I am hoping that with the help of other sufferers as well as my therapist I will have the knowledge that I need to get to know I side of my self that I overlooked or ignored.

Hello @Cardinal - welcome to the forum. I hope we can help support you as you learn about PTSD and the ways it is manifesting itself with you.

I am unsure how to read this. Have you been diagnosed with PTSD and who diagnosed you?

Have a look around the site. You will find some really good information and articles on PTSD.

Welcome @Cardinal, glad you are here. Hope you find a lot of support and information that will help you to understand how complex our lives can become because of PTSD. It takes courage to reach out, and I always admire that in a person coming here.

You will find some great people with a lot of experience to help you and gets lots of encouragement. I have grown a lot since being here.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. @blackemerald1. I ended up in my local mental hospital, where through treatment and therapy they diagnosed me. My regular therapist as well as a crisis specialist agree with their diagnosis.

That's hard to understand with all the negative affects it has. In 2013 I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and after reading as much as I could find about ptsd and cptsd and reevaluating my real symptoms I believe I have been misdiagnosed again. All I know is I want to know what I have so I can get the right treatment.

If you area able, I would suggest that you find a PTSD trauma specialist in your area and have a consult with him/her. BPD is often misdiagnosed when PTSD is the actual issue. There are good therapies that help to deal with this. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and EMDR. Find someone who specializes in PTSD. Glad you are here, though. There is lots to learn and lots of support here.
