School Grants; I Need Help!

I would be more than happy to help you fill out the pell grant application. I remember the fist time I filled it out, it was so overwhelming.

Federal loans don't look at your credit score only private loans do. but if you miss a payment once you are out of school, say goodbye to ever recovering your credit score. Unlike most debits that no longer show up after 7 years, a missed student loan payment will stay there forever.

Seriously? WTF? Even a repo or forclosure drops off. Guess i better make sure i get a good job if i do this. I was sorr of thinking about that too. Not wanting to borrow too much of the ones i have to pay back for that reason.

A friend of my dad & step mom is in IT (a job I could do today) and he makes around $25 an hour. Certianly im looking for as high of pay as i can get but im worried that wouldnt be enough to pay off loans too. Or id just have to live like i am today and pay them off first before doing something like financing a car (have never done that before and i want a good car damn it!)

Anyway, thats getting WAY ahead of myself.

Aww! Thank you so much! Yes, overwhleming indeed! I'll talk with ya once ive sort of figured out what im doing and which ones im going for and stuff. Do you have to be accepted into a college before you fill out all this grant stuff or have the money from the grants first? Gosh, its pitiful i dont know this stuff.

Fist of all a pell grant you do not have to pay back. So much better than a loan. You don't have to be 100% sure of what school you are going to but you need to have a good idea because it will ask you to list the codes for the schools you are looking at. The won't award you any money though until you are actually enrolled. The sent the money to the school who then disperses it to you.

Yeah, i knew the pell grant (nor any grant i believe) you dont have to. Was more talking the loans.

It def sounds like the pell grant would be a good 1st thing, and probably the FAFSA 2nd, but would that be enough to start out with?

I guess i'll need to look at low intrest student loans for the live on money huh? Ive heard of scholarships giving you enough to live on but unsure about grants.

LOTS of colleges here in person and obviously a ton online. Im wary about online as Ive always kept what my step mom's brother said, to be careful of what online college i go to as some dont count or something. I dont know but ive always been scared of that.

I highly advise you to avoid the online programs. My husband got involved in the phoenix university scam. He signed up for 2 classes to keep his teachers licence up to date, but he never got credit and they are trying to say he owes $40k.

The pell grant and Fasfa are the same thing and based on your income and school tuition they do give you some money to live on. If you go to an instate college, you can get a bog waiver that waives your tuition fee if you make under a certain amount of money. However, you are still given the money to cover tuition from the pell grant so you have a bit of extra money in your pocket.

Yeah thats what i was talking about. But many went to college online so i know there are good ones. Like real physical colleges have online courses. Ive seen that so thats what im wondering.

Im fearing my pain. The fear of people is there but i can force myself to numb myself to do what i need to. Im just fearing the pain will keep me from being able to sit in a physical class, walk around campus, etc.

@cat-lady Wasnt real sure what exactly I was looking for as I was just googling "best online schools" and things like that, so that gives me a direction. Thank you!

@scout86, didnt think of some sort of accomendation as so many have online but I'll check it out. Thanks for that. I should also look into a dyslexic accomendation for timed tests too. I was tested at age 20 but have no idea where that medical paperwork is, whom I went to, or if it would be good anymore so need to get tested again.

I keep thinking all day "am I really going to take a shot at school? Like a real true shot?" As its always been something I wanted but so far away and the older i got the farther away it seems. Its almost like im BSing myself or something.

Thank you @cat-lady! I went browsing and theres a lot of information on there!

I dont have a plan. Id love to go to school but the more I dig the more it seems unacessable. Full time (without a job) anyway.

I'm going to do the EdAssit thing that work is doing free for employees about school and try to gain up as much info as I can about it. But i think my life will look like re-employment then school if layed off and if not school part time while working.

Its sad that in today's time we cant say "ok you want to go to school full time? We'll pay and give you enough money to live as long as you keep a high GPA" or something. Make it easier than to apply for this grant and that grant and this loan or whatever to make it happen. The government should make it easier i think. Obama's administration said it was but it isnt in my opinion.
