Seeing A Social Worker Whom I Like With A Psychiatrist I Dislike In The Same Clinic?

So, I went to a new psychiatrist a few days ago for treatment for my PTSD; I met with the social worker, who I greatly liked -- a lot. She was nice. Caring. Smart. The psychiatrist herself, though, was outrageously unethical. For starters, before even knowing me (she just read a few notes the social worker took down), said "Your old psychiatrist is garbage and everything he said was wrong. What, he's Chinese?! Indian. Very wrong person. Garbage. Lies." Then proceeded to deny PTSD existed; lmao. Like, she knows it exists but she doesn't diagnose people with Bipolar because she thinks those people are and I quote "Retards looking for a easy way out of intense therapy to get better and get addicted to drugs." She asks me "So, you come here for what reason?! You want drugs or what? I don't understand why you don't just stick with therapy, it's better than medicine." Lol. So I'm wondering if it even makes sense to even go to the social worker. I like her, she seems smart and nice. I feel comfortable.

But I don't know if it makes sense to just go to her in the same clinic where the psychiatrist also works. She's made people cry before because she said "Oh, you're just to depressed." So she called the cops on them and told them to "take this annoying out of here they need serious help in a hospital, they are sick." Do you think I should stick with the social worker and just not see the psych? I'm not saying she's bad, she may know some things but it doesn't seem like she knows how to diagnose properly. And I don't inform them if I don't leave, right? I just stop going altogether and they wouldn't charge my insurance without me actually going for a session?

Some of what I mentioned above are also from patient reviews, so I can only speak for myself. She never told me those things about people being retarded, she just made that racist comment and said I should go to therapy more often. So I'm torn. On one hand, I've only seen her once but I just don't want to take a chance. And even though I like the social worker a lot, I'm just not sure if it's a good idea to go to that clinic altogether. I get why she's tough, though. She mainly treats elderly war veterans I heard so a lot of them ARE addicted to drugs. So maybe she's tough because she does assume people just want drugs. From what I took from her, I'm the only child abuse patient with PTSD and possible Borderline. So I can't blame her but I also don't like her alone.

Do you think I should see the social worker alone, without the psych though?

You choosing to see the Social Worker will have to be up to you. But the P?? Sorry, I personally would have become very confrontive and red zoned in that atmosphere. That may be her style and she has her reasons, but I personally would not accomplish anything with her. Depends on what you feel you need. More assertive or more calming. And if you do choose to see the SW, then you have a right to do that without being insulted.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I'll do that, then. I really like the social worker. The reason I didn't confront the P was because the last time someone did she admitted them to the hospital because... well... she didn't like their attitude about questioning her. I don't need that, honestly. Even if she does seem to like me more than she seemed other patients. But yeah, I'll think.

You don't owe this psychiatrist a damn thing so please don't think you do. It's perfectly possible to see that social worker and not that psychiatrist. Just request a new one or seek another place. Its normal to have to fire a few before finding the right one for you.

The last thing we need is a P that has that kind of power !!! Depending on her mood and whether or not you made yourself clear, which we DON'T do because we are there to learn and figure things out. And she has the power to send you away... no way, you would never relax in an atmosphere like that. So possibly you were looking for validation as to how you feel about her... you did great !!! And you can see the SW without owing the P anything. Hope things start to move forward for you now.. is you accept .

I think that before you make a decision you should investigate the hierarchy of the clinic. Is the psychiatrist the director of the clinic or in another supervisory role? If so, the psychiatrists actions could very much affect your treatment under the social worker. That is, if the social worker is having difficulties and consults with her superior (the psychiatrist), and the psychiatrist advises heavy handed treatment (hospitalization), this could be detrimental to you. I urge you to find out as much as you can regarding the inner workings of the clinic before committing to any sort of treatment with the social worker.

That psychiatrist is clearly burnt out and needs time off - or a new career!

Anyone who is racist can't see people straight. So why would you want them to look at you?

That doesn't answer the question about seeing the SW though, sorry. What did your old Psychiatrist say, and what has made you move on?
