It might be just me, but just trying this last night the shrunken window seems to feel like it creates a wall of text on the left I can't begin to wade through. Similarly when I can't see who made the last post on a thread
Me too : )

Equally, with the userbar on the left, you endup with squashed text and a lot of whitespace under the user details. On an iPad / phone, the right sidebar won't be there in portrait mode, shouldn't be there in landscape on a phone either.

Similarly when I can't see who made the last post on a thread Idk if I've read it?
I took that out, because its really not essential information. An entire column with noise, nothing really beneficial for the discussion itself. Why does it matter who responded last? Non-essential information, when the important information is, someone responded, I should go read what they have to say. Not the who!

Interesting - sometimes, a member I’m not expecting responds to a thread, and that helps me realise the thread is relevant to me in ways I didn’t expect it to be.

I guess I could just follow that member - but yeah, too much noise!!

It’s not but who originally posted it is. Some people have icons which let me know who is who but plenty are just a letter with a color. I’d like to know who posted the original post and it’s now gone. I also liked it because I could click on it to see other posts by them, helps me learn about a member and make decisions on who I want to read.

If you touch the avatar next to a thread, it will show their name. Like I said, lots of noise. Every thread listing had four of who started a thread, on one line. I have cut that down to one. The only thing I removed was who posted last, but if you have posted onto a thread, it still shows that on the left OP avatar, also clickable / touchable to see.

Whilst IMO it might be nice to see who posted last, that doesn't tell you who posted since you last read it, that is shown when you click into the thread. So even that is useless information.

A lot of forum setup is very old, dating back 30 years... and we have to move forward with more modern standards, but not dismiss the forum values. I am trying to find that balance, is all.
