I know it is a bit off topic, but today I read in the news today of a Scottish girl who has become pregnant at the age of 11 years, to a 15 year old , while drunk. She claims she did not know 'you could get pregnant the first time you do it'. It also states that at 8 months pregnant she is smoking 20 a day.
My thoughts, and connection to this thread are - where was her sex education? Where were her parents when she was drunk and having sex?
I rather think if @
rightkindofme were in charge this could not have happened, certainly not through ignorance anyway.
To make it worse the 15 year old boy ( friend) is being charged with rape because of her age. There is no discussion about consent or not. She was reported to have said she is looking forward to taking her baby to the swimming pool. How sad and how naive! It reads as if she is talking about getting a new dolly.
What will this do to her body, her mind, her career prospects, her future? Sex education or reproductive education - either way it sounds as if she was not in class that day - and oh yes, she has been suspended at the moment because of bad behaviour.
This, for me is when the lines get so blurred. Of course she could be the victim of horrific abuse, after all her boyfriend is being charged with rape. However, her name has been made public so she is not being considered (legally) the victim of a sex crime. I feel as if I am being very judgmental, but that is not of her, it is of her situation.
If there was more open talk and discussions about sex, - in school, home, society in general - would it prevent young girls like her ending up in this situation, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
