I just wanted to take a few minutes to appreciate some accomplishments L and I have enjoyed the past month. First of all, he tried getting out more and signed up to be an extra in a movie. This put him in a group of about 15 strangers all day. It forced him out of his shell and he held his own. He did this all on his own. I made sure I told him I was proud of him. I am!

Next, his best friend came to visit him from Mass. (we live in Texas). At first I was jealous that he would be spending his precious time with someone else, but I quickly changed my mind. His best friend is a doctor. He was able to observe some of L's symptoms up close (they visit about once every 6 months). Turns out L's repeated physical health issues have been related to Type 2 diabetes. Now I wonder if this was related to some of his mood swings? This will be yet another challenge for us, but I hope we can spend some time learning to cook new meals together.

Visiting with his best friend seems to have slowly pulled him out of his long slump and isolation, too. I have to know I helped a little by keeping a finger on my pulse as he required isolation. Just messages every few days telling him I was thinking of him, and I cared. Never made up stuff and never too many texts in one day. L says he's still "getting used to someone being nice to him". I have only his ex wife to blame for that statement...treating him poorly after returning home from a war zone. ( Who WOULD leave a man at Brooks Army Medical for 6 moths without bringing his kids to see him anyway? She's horrible.)

In my personal life, I have been dealing with a harassing stalker from a relationship I ended over a year ago. The police are involved, but this last time they tried to bother L, too. The most recent incident happened Tuesday. He stepped right up as soon as I told him something had happened and handled it. I had no idea if he was gonna run or help and he helped. I am so happy about it and he feels good he was able to be there for me when I needed it. He told me, "Nothing that person could say would change how I feel about you."

He's trying and he's keeping his promises and respecting my boundaries. He's doing what he says he will do and he cares if I am scared or hurt. I am happy for this. Small victories, YAAY!

Awesome!

I think that some of the mood swings could indeed be affected by blood sugar levels. I don't have diabetes, but have had issues with blood sugar levels....kind of in the way that people get hangry when hungry? LOL. I'd definitely encourage him to keep on top of his diabetes because it could help him manage his mood swings. Good luck!

I fully agree! Thank God his friend realized his recurring serious infections was related to something else. He's been so sick he's lost 30 pounds in 3 months. Poor guy has felt horrrrible. We will definitely stay on top of this. My best friend is an Army wife with a PTSD sufferer husband. He has had to manage type 2 as well and it has helped him with his mood swings.
