So I was looking at some of the music threads for PTSD related songs, and I was so impressed with all the suggestions, I thought maybe some of you could help me with my latest playlist mission: revamping my playlist as I get myself motivated for spring, which will mean a return to my running routine.

I run with a particular app that is super geeky and has to do with running from zombies. Yep, that's me. That said, I'm going for a sort of post-apoc style, but with some tongue in cheek humor. I'll list some of the 'winners' so far so you can get a sense for the general mood.

They need to be easy to run to, so not super fast or really slow. And you can tell by the below I'm going for things with some melody that are fun to listen to, not necessarily an hour of running to super heavy metal. ;) Running is frustrating enough for me at times, I need something that's going to pick me up when all I want to do is lay down on the pavement and die.

Pumped up Kicks- Foster the People
For Whom the Bell Tolls- Metallica
How Far We've Come- Matchbox Twenty
Scavengers of the Damned- Aiden
Time is Running Out- Muse
Going Under- Evanescence
Don't Fear The Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult
Knights of Cydonia- Muse
Carry on Wayward Son- Kansas
Radioactive- Imagine Dragons
Tainted Love- Soft Cell Version (Told you, humor)
Immortals- Fall Out Boy
Until the End- Breaking Benjamin
Message in a Bottle- The Police
Hungry Like the Wolf- Duran Duran
Starlight- Muse
It's the End of the World as We Know It- R.E.M.

Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Hm, not really good at theming, but here I go:

The Outcast - Dropkick Murphys
Worker's Song - Dropkick Murphys
Prisoners Song - Dropkick Murphys
Devil's Dance Floor - Flogging Molly

@otakujome awesome suggestions I don't think I knew of Dropkick Murphys. And I like super eclectic mixes, so this will compliment the stuff I have so far and keep me from getting bored.

I'm out for the night but hopefully I can come back and listen to a bunch of music tomorrow courtesy of all the forum music bugs. :)

you can google "movie title" + "music" or "soundtrack" to get lists of all the music in a movie (many songs are left out of soundtrack releases). This way you can find actual songs that were used in zombie running scenes! I've done the same in order to find all my favorite songs from a movie, as anymore it can be difficult for a soundtrack to have all of the best music from the movie. (One that comes to mind is the "Take Me Home Tonight" soundtrack which did not even have "Take Me Home Tonight" on it!)

My running playlist is all over the place but here are a few: This one is very funny to match your humour request:
We’re Comin’ To Kill Ya” — Zach Selwin
Zombies Ate Her Brain - Creepshow (well, anything by The Creepshow)
Boston: More Than a Feeling
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
Living Dead Beats — Sek
Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
Eight Miles High - The Byrds

Ok I have to stop now or I would bombard you with songs lol. Good luck and best wishes with your running.

Does it need to have a tempo? I find that when I think about songs my feet tend to try to keep time. (I'm a walker though...no, not that kind of walker. Grrr... I walk a lot.)

Run Like Hell...Pink Floyd

Disturbed----Down With The Sickness. In "Dawn of the Dead" remake. One of my favorite songs from a zombie movie. (Someone remind me to download that for my own running playlist!)

My favorite song form 28 days later isn't even on the soundtrack, either.....12:51 by the strokes.

@WillyKat There are some things that just won't work, but I think it's more based on stride than speed, if that makes sense. My stride will lengthen or shorten depending on the song but also where I'm at in the run. So I go for a variety of tempos. There are certain BPMs that are more ideal theoretically, I tend to use the "if I'm always dreading this song coming up maybe it's time to delete it from this list" approach.

That said, I'm a musician, so if I note that running on the beat is uncomfortable I'll divide into divisions of three or five against four just fine and lock into that pace. Probably helps a lot.

@Solara Down with the sickness is one of the ones I added tonight. I feel like for running it hits that balance between in your face but not too overwhelming, at least for me. :) I've only seen 28 days later once in full and then in bits and pieces and I wouldn't have remembered 12:51 but I really like it now that I've gone and listened to it.

I found some lists from 2012 theme parties and added some more like:

Let the Bodies Hit the Floor- Activator
The Final Countdown- Europe
Miami 2017- Billy Joel
Another Way to Die- Disturbed
Through the Fire and the Flames- DragonForce

Also, because I'm a geek: Your Brains- Jonathan Coulton, which I'm sort of ashamed wasn't on my first attempt at this list. Lol.

I have no interior sense of structure... Including rhythm. I need music to have a rhythm. Or I fall down when I try to jog. A lot. And hurt myself. A lot. (I can run flat out, but not a measured pace).

So I listen to cadence. Most of which are either super-moto (moti moti gotta lotta motivation!) or piss funny.

If I'm deep in the woods (where no one can hear me, also skeers away dangerous fauna ;)) I'll call cadence. That's better for my lungs & overall endurance. In the city I'll still usually whisper it. Even though it's not as effective, because the breath control is different, it's still better than simply breathing! I get in shape better & faster when I'm also moderating my breathing to be able to sing whilst running.
