Hi everyone

Well we continue to have ups and downs of course. Hubby started CBT with the national health psychology team and after the first session he could smell the smells of the accident, feel being kicked and it brought it all back extremely vividly.

He has been down ever since really and I have noticed him being aggressive – not physically but verbally to our son and me.

The purpose of this note is to tell you that we seem to be getting some good support on the NHS….

  • Once a week hubby is now seeing a counselor – ongoing as long as he needs it.

  • Once a month or so he is seeing the psychiatrist

  • Once every 2 weeks seeing a guidance expert/ social worker (this we are not sure how long for)

  • I also have a person I can see for about 6 sessions as I need it as a ‘carer’.

  • I am attending a 6 week ‘educational’ course (1 evening a week) to help you understand stress/ CBT.

  • I am also seeing a counselor – 6 sessions about every 3 weeks.

Let’s keep positive that it will help.

Have a super weekend.

Well done for getting this support, it's a lot more than we ever had. By the time I manged to wrangle some therapy out of the buggers (other than drugs that turned him into an evil zombie), it was almost too late.

I got 6 weeks of counseling at a rehab centre and it only made matters worse - the vile woman wanted to drag up my childhood (why?) and advised me to leave my husband - "for my own good". All I wanted was a safe, supportive space to vent, acknowledgement of my feelings, and to get some advice on coping with his PTSD. I lasted 3 sessions.

I am sorry to be so negative, but in my experience it can be very hit and miss with counselors. If they have specialist training and experience in PTSD then it can work otherwise beware - we have had a few who did more harm than good, not deliberately, but by not understanding the processes of traumatic stress they try to apply basic counseling theories that may not be appropriate.

Love and luck to you both!

Thanks so much Pale Warrior - It is something that I will take on board. Sadly with hubbies support I havent met the counsellor and I think I will suggest this.

A fair fee years ago I saw a counsellor as I was having problems at work. She was HORRIBLE. OMG I get on with everyone and this woman - how she got to be a counsellor is beyond me. I didnt go back after the 2nd session ......

You think these people do this to help others....????

Thanks and best wishes
