Terror In Australia

I have several CWP. I try to get one for the state that I currently reside in and there is no law stating to how many you can have. My wife has gotten very used to me carrying around and even in the house. With home invasion on the rise, I don't want to have the resource but not have it at hand.

It is personal decision that I have talked with my therapist about. Having the side arm, and knowing how to use it brings my anxiety level down. It gives me a piece of mind. I hope I never have to deploy it, but I have no fear if I have to. I would rather be judge by 12 of my peers then carried by 6.

I believe people here are getting tired of criminals ruling the streets. I fear that if things don't change soon we will see more people taking to the streets and solving the problem their way. I just trust the system, but I may not trust some people in the system.

Hey CG

I've had my permit for that long also. As I say, it's my choice and I don't advocate others to do so. I don't know what the answer is to all that's going on.

Dan,

I agree that we're hammered to death by the media. It's programming for them and about ratings not about giving us info that might be useful. Perhaps being a bit older I have a different view of the world, probably just happens with time. I think the world has changed. It's not the world I grew up in but I was a kid more than 50 years ago. That just makes me feel old just looking at that number. Not that bad things didn't happen back then, they did. Just not to the degree of what's going on today. And yes the media does blow it all way out of proportion.

You just had to bring up the being OLD SHIT didn't you Jar??? ;):):D:ROFLMAO: I think you have me by a few years. (I'll be 64 in March, f*ck the miles) When I was a kid, I would have never thought we would be living like we are today....I have been carrying for over four decades and the truth be told, it's a pain in the ass and cost money. Stuff wares out so you need to buy new belts and holsters, whatever....However over the years I have had to pull my piece a few times, but did not have to shoot. I think that had to do with the look in my eyes and what I said. :) With me it's better to have it when needed, than not and I have been doing it for so long, when I don't carryI feel like a part of me is AWOL.....Had one of us been the coffee shop, carrying......May have ended with just one dead terrorist....

Sad part is the gun laws in OZ, the terrorist motherf*cker had a gun, bad people will always have a gun. Maybe OZ can use this to get there guns back!!! One can only hope that will happen....

I was having a relevant conversation last night with a family member, when I asked, "is the world more messed up now than it was when I was a kid in the 80's or is it just the media now, or neither?". I got this reply back...

Dan. World much the same but just so much more media coverage both official and through social media. A lot of older stuff covered up back then, but all sorts of stuff such as child abuse; savile, priests etc has now come to light. War wise since ww2 we have had wars in Korea,Vietnam, Cuban missile crisis, Grenada, Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan. All sorts off atrocities in Cambodia and Burma post colonial independence. Tribal genocide in various Central African countries. Israel Egypt Syria wars. Czech uprising against Soviet Union. Northern island. Basque terrorist in Spain. Munich Olympic shootings. Iran revolution. East Timor genocide. ..Lebanon, yogoslavia..Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan...Saddam Hussein genocide against the kurds.I've just listed those pretty much straight off.

First I would like to say that was an answer and a half my step dad rattled off from mind! Second, I'm sure there must be more to add.

I felt like I needed to ask him that because it sure feels worse these days. Paranoia doesn't help one bit either.

What is considered World War? I don't think its been labeled yet. Because declarations of war are literally not even considered these days.
We are fighting the Russians in Ukraine.

Ah, Doc, they quit called it war anymore...it is now a financial venture. I believe there's a computer somewhere plotting out the financial gain of attacking any particular country. Protracted gain by XYZ Contractor for X years. That sort of thing.

Dan, I think we all ask that same question to ourselves these days.

I felt like I needed to ask him that because it sure feels worse these days.

Orwell's 1984 What was fiction, today.is reality.

Control of Information and History
The Party controls every source of information, managing and rewriting the content of all newspapers and histories for its own ends. The Party does not allow individuals to keep records of their past, such as photographs or documents. As a result, memories become fuzzy and unreliable, and citizens become perfectly willing to believe whatever the Party tells them. By controlling the present, the Party is able to manipulate the past. And in controlling the past, the Party can justify all of its actions in the present.

Paranoia doesn't help one bit either.

If you haven't read 1984, Don't! It's food for paranoia - for me anyway.

It's always been this way on a global scale. We hear more about it now.
One difference is that we have more "baddies" on own soil.
It feeds into unrest and sometimes I wonder who has to gain with this whole propaganda.

This is a thought provoking thread. I guess a lot have to do with perception, how we view things personally. What you think is pretty much reality for you or me. I always think of the opening lines from a Tale of Two Cities; 'These are the best of time, These are the worst of time'. I think that pretty much sums it up for me. Like always there's some really good stuff and then some really bad stuff. The media has surely lost it's way. Everything now is a 'show' and about 'ratings'. It's very hard to find what is really going on with having to sift through layers and layer of junk.

and paranoia can be thought of as just a 'heightened state of awareness'. Just be mindful though, it can easily get the better of you. Hyper vigilance doesn't help that either.

The frightening thing is how totally oblivious people of this nation are. They only raise their faces from their I-phone to receive totally bogus information from the media and just roll with it. They either don't realize how important the safety of this nations is, or do much of anything if they do.

How very true that is Sarg. We have become a nation of suckers and politically correct pussies, believing what ever propaganda the news media spreads
for Obamas regime. I hope change, drastic change comes in our lifetime, or the real opportunity to change things..by whatever means.

Let's include Fox News in that. They're just as bad trying to sway people to the extreme right. Or shape the news in a way that affects stocks, again to make rich, richer.

I'm beginning to think SyFy is the most realistic news channel there is.
