Therapy For Paranoid Thoughts

"Hypervigilance" is a common symptom of ptsd. But my thinking is that hypervigilance and paranoia are kind of just sitting on a spectrum of the same sort of over-awareness and over-thinking, with 'paranoia' being a bit like an extreme form of hypervigilance.

In both cases, just because you're 'more aware' of something than the average person, doesn't mean you're wrong. It's more about turning the volume down so that a sometimes very helpful symptom doesn't become a mostly problematic symptom.

"Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you." True.

But just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that everyone is out to get you. You know?

I'm a big fan of watching your own back in this world, but it is a balancing act.

For myself, I know that I'm capable of anticipating every possible bad occurrence; what this means is that sometimes, I'm actually right. But I have to remind myself that it doesn't mean I should continue to anticipate everything going wrong - it just means that yes, sometimes things will go wrong.

I don't know if that makes sense - but it's how I relate to your most recent post.
