There Aren't Any Ptsd Support Groups In An Area. How Do I Start One?

The only regular group meetings held in this state are for sexual assault victims and war veterans. I was bullied in school, by the way.

And if there aren't any support programs in your area, please tell me; I want to know if bully support groups are a thing... Edit: In my area, I mean.

What an excellent idea. I've never heard of (anti) bully support groups but given the epidemic of bullying in all its forms, I'm actually surprised that no one's ever thought of setting them up.

I do not know of bullying groups, either. I have run into your situation, before this website; I couldn't find a PTSD group that wasn't for Vets.

Bullying is a good fit for PTSD groups, and it also seems like Bullying Groups could stand on their own. Bullying consciousness is on the rise, thank goodness!

Kind of surprised that my idea was a first around here. But now I can be sure of that this forum probably won't know how to start such a group.

Sounds to me like a first anywhere. Never come across it in all my readings; although the BullyOnline Site is particularly comprehensive I can't remember having seen any self-run groups spoken about.

BUT....earlier this evening I found myself pondering about anti-bully support groups and actually started writing a business plan (for funding primarily, then mission statement, constitution and member agreements etc etc ) in my head for a half dozen trial groups. (Done this sort of stuff before and I think we desperately need such groups, for adults and children.)

@Tei-Saji No, not the first and you probably should use probably give the forums search bar a try before criticizing.

Anthony started this years ago...

A support group just for bullying might be too narrow of a subject. You might want to broaden it. All support groups have the same basics and you will probably run into people who have also been sexually abused or neglected or etc. etc. when you start your group.

@Ayesha - thanks for that info, some good pointers there. It's not about support for being bullied though. Also, bullying spans a huge range of activities and circumstances/environments. As I thought of the business plan and based on my experience working alongside e.g. schools, colleges, disadvantaged communities and public services I could envision the first official meeting being packed out!

It's not about support for being bullied though.

I think much of it will be transferable. Like I said, you will end up getting people with all sorts of backgrounds much like this forum and not just bullying so you will end up needing as much information as you can get. To think otherwise would be naive.

I have been here for over 4 years and heard many many different things. It's never so clear cut.

Also, bullying spans a huge range of activities and circumstances/environments.

I agree and I think that makes my above point more clear.

Best wishes in your plans.
