So, as many of you already know, I haven't been doing well. Haven't been able to eat or sleep for a week. Well the eating thing has been an issue longer than that, but yeah.

Anyway, I had my appt with my gastroenterologist today to get results for the endoscopy, and multiple biopsies, I had done several months ago.
It turns out there is something pretty wrong. All the biopsies came back abnormal. He doesn't know what it causing it yet, and is further investigating, but at least they know something is wrong.

He suspects either Celiac Disease, or Chrohn's to be the issue. I am just happy that they found something. I have had stomach issues for three years now, and finally someone is getting to the bottom of it.

I feel validated. I am so happy that it isn't all just my head. I can't blame PTSD for this one!

Also, I was given meds that are supposed to help if either of those conditions is present. Can you believe the prescription was $345.59?!?

Thank goodness for drug benefits. Tariq's job finally paid off!

I'm just feeling so happy, and hopeful, about this whole stomach thing. I know, it is funny that I am happy to have a disease, but if I am going to be sick, I would rather have a diagnosis, and a way of treating the issue, than to just continue on as I have been, very ill, and with no answers, no one listening to me, and feeling like I might just be crazy.

So YAY me! There is something wrong with me. I am not a nutjob!

Oh oh! I had a bowl of soup well, the broth part of it anyway, after my appt, and it didn't make me sick. Dr told me to eat clear liquids for a few days because it will help me get back into eating, and will be gentle enough on my stomach. He told me to get some gatorade too. I did, and wow that stuff has to be like miracle liquid, it made me feel SO much better!

Hey, glad to hear you're really sick instead of just a nut job. I guess the head bone is connected to the stomach bone. Get well soon my friend.

Hey Luthien, this is fantastic news (ya your right, it does seem a little wierd saying that ;). I'm so glad you were able to get some nourishment, I was worried about you. Do you think with that immediate problem off your mind a bit you might be able to catch a few hours sleep tonight? I hope so.

Patrick,

LOL!! That comment cracked me right up. Loved it!

Cragger,

I am sorry to have worried you, and anyone else who was witness to that meltdown last night. I am definitely going to try to sleep some. I'm pretty wide awake now, but the next time I start feeling all heavy eyed I am going to let myself go to sleep.

side note
Gatorade sugar high has to be the funnest (funniest too, yeah, I like to make up my own words) feeling in awhile though. I've never had it before, but boy is it great for when you feel like I was. Taste isn't the best though.

I'm glad you have something concrete wrong, weird as that sounds--but it's so much easier when you aren't worried that it's all in your head.

I hope they figure out what it is so you can be feeling better soon.

Yeah, not the best tasting stuff (although some people love it...there are a lot of different flavors to try, some better than others) but it can be quite helpful. It was originally developed at the University of Florida to be used by their athletes (Florida Gators, thus the name Gatorade) to replenish electrolytes when practicing/competing. A bit of useless information, I know. Is it obvious that I went to the University of Florida and I'm a HUGE Gator fan??

Anyway, glad that you're on the road to a diagnosis. It is comforting and validating to know that there is something identifiable causing your poor health.

Luthien

I remember very well when I was finally diagnosed with my problems. It was one of the best days of my life.

To be able to put a name to what ails ya is one of the most comforting things you will experience.

To know something is wrong and not just in your head is a stress release like no other. It also helps because now your friends and family know you really are sick. Not just a slacker. I know very well that feeling.

Mother thought I was a hypochondriac or on drugs, she was not sure. Now while she does not completely understand all this ptsd stuff, at least she knows it is a real issue.

So as ridiculous as it some to some people, Congrats on your condition! ! !

PS gator aid is a miracle cure for a lot of things. My montra is very simple

When in doubt drink a glass of fruit flavored Gator Aid.

Wishing you some rest and comfort now that you are on the mends

Finding out is two-fold, isn't it? It's a relief to find out that you weren't imagining it but at the same time, there is something wrong. I hope that modern medicine can cure whatever is ailing you!

...me too Luthien...now they know something hope they can help

Am sorry its not more I wanted to support you as you have me...am just not good at doing it at the moment...
But I wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts...sending positive vibes your way Luth.
hugs ~fin

Thank you all for your comments. All brought a smile to my face.
It is wonderful to finally know, and to have people understand why it is such a big deal.

*hug for everyone*

I'm not that crazy about Gatorade either. Drank and awful lot of it in Iraq last year, and have to admit it works. The red stuff was my favorite...hated the orange.
