Tingling - A Barometer Of Anxiety

Hi,
I signed up just to respond to you!!

About six weeks after my father died, I started getting numbness and tingling also! ER checks came back normal and they said "peripheral nerve" My MD just told me to take xanax meanwhile my blood pressure kept rising.

Thanks to a GOOD therapist who sent me to a caring, thorough, MD - I realize I have some PTSD because the six weeks before my Father died was horrific. (not going into details).. But anyway, I am so relieved to read that other have these same issues. They have been on some BP medicine and Celesta.

Thank you for your post Atara, it seems that the somatic symptoms of PTSD can be wide ranging. Do you find that the tingling goes upend down depending on your level of anxiety?

I've had some all body tingling that is quite strong a few times, mostly when I'm in an intense session with t. She mentioned that sometimes it can be a sign of body memories soon to come.

I now also get incidents of pretty intrusive tingling many times a day in an area of my body associated with trauma. I suspect this is some sort of recurring body memory.

Both of these sensations began after traumatic memories began surfacing so I think it has less to do with anxiety for me than it does with working through trauma.

I also get tingling in hands and feet along with excessive sweating of them. Sometimes a random finger will go numb and turns white for awhile. Usually these things happen when my anxiety is very high. I'm just figureing myself out too and am glad I'm not alone, as you aren't either. Take care . Hope things get better for you soon.

THank you,
I went to a naturopathic Dr. and was tested. Turns out my adrenal glands were maxed out and not producing enough stress hormone! I am feeling better, slowly!

Zef, I would love to hear more about this. Your comments are the 1st I've come across similar to what I experience. Is this ongoing (mine are constant) while working through trauma or periodically?

I wonder with me if it is related to body memories from when I had my radioactive iodine treatment about 5 years ago for an overactive thyroid. For me this was an incredibly traumatic experience. Initially it was a symptom of the treatment but it never went away and has been with me constantly since.

It continues for me to be a barometer of my anxiety.

Hi Purple Butterfly!

I love butterflies too! To me the symbolize "new beginnings"...they struggle to get out of the cocoon, but once they do, what the become is beautiful. I heard of a story once about someone trying to end the butterflies struggle early, forcing it out of it's cocoon too soon and the butterfly ended up dying. It reminds me that our struggles, although VERY difficult, make us stronger and more beautiful, in new and wonderful ways. I digress.

I have sensations and tingling periodically thru out my body (arms, ears, legs, etc), but always in the genital area and vagina - it mimics...yep, you guessed it. It constantly feels like something moving inside me. I've seen a lot of different types of doctors for this over the last 7 yrs for this.

Cymbalta was also recommended for me, but hasn't taken any tingling away...also recommended was Lyrica. It didn't help me, but it has helped some people with types of tingling/nerve issues. Also, Neurontin and Amitryptaline (sp?) have been used as well. I can't take these, but you may want to inquire. Neurontin definitely calms a person down....unfortunately, it effects me to where I can't get out of bed. Hope you get some help because I'm sure they're frustrating for you. Thanks for starting the thread. It's been helpful in a variety of ways!
