Tingling in hands and arms

Recently I've been experiencing tingling in my arms and hands when I go to sleep. Last night, when I was trying to sleep, it happened as it usually does and stopped when I woke up. But after getting some breakfast it started up again. I was reading other's experiences with this and am happy to know I'm not alone with this symptom. But it is hard for me to cope with the sensation itself.

While it is not the source of my PTSD, I had a seizure as a child that was traumatic for me. Ever since, I have had extreme fear of bodily sensations I feel I have no control over. So the tingling does make me quite anxious. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on anything that may help?

This may sound crazy but have you had your thyroid checked?

I have hypothyroidism and that is one of the symptoms. Along with hair loss, heart palpitations etc.

Good luck!

Thank you for the comments. As far as thyroid concerns go, I had it checked during my last physical. But it certainly doesn't hurt to have it checked again, so I'll be doing that. (As well as talking to my doctor about the tingling itself too.)

If it is anxiety, try some relaxation techniques like breathing ones or some guided meditation or whatever might work for you. I have the tingling in the hands and the breathing can help for me, but usually I need some sort of medication as well because it means I am super anxious. I definitely agree checking with your doctor is a good idea.

Tingling in the extremeties (hands and feet, legs and arms) can be a lot of things, but one of the most common is peripheral neuropathy. Which is basically a way of saying that something is going haywore with the nerves in your body, and the first place it is oftentimes experienced is the extremeties.

Which is a very lousy attempt at an explanation, but a way of saying that you want to get it checked out. Neuropathy has a nasty tendency to get worse if left to its own devices.
