Hi guys! It's been close to three years since the onset of my PTSD and I feel
I have come such a long way!

I mostly can fall asleep medication free now with the help of Benadryl occasionally and lots of care with aromatherapy etc...but I still struggle with feeling rested when I wake up and often have vivid dreams (tho not always intense nightmares , but sometimes dark in theme) and I tend to wake up at least once in the night ...any tips for feeling rested and staying asleep.

I feel like I haven't slept well in years, that's right because I haven't :/...but I hope this finds everyone well. It really does get better. Just wish I slept better still.

Any tips are appreciated. I take melatonin as well.

The days when I get my best sleep? 2 ingredients required: a really good workout at some point during the day, and a solid half hour of relaxtion before bed (and no, tv doesn't count when good sleep is the goal!!!).

I am on Clonodine twice a day right now. So, right now I take my clonodine at night, a magnesium pill, (important I think), two potent liquid valerian root capsules, and a Bachs Rescue Remedy nightime relief. Oh, and also 1mg of Klonopin. Oh, and I also aromatherapize a good quality lavender essential oil for at least an hour before bed. I take all of these an hour before bed, and then either relax and watch relaxing tv or music, with my spouse. If I need it I also use an OM tuning fork to balance the brain before bed.
Yeah, well, all this and I still have horrible Nightmares that wake me up once a night. Night terrors? The Clonodine I am on now does not allow me to exercise really because of the way it effects blood pressure. But, hopefully soon I'll have an answer or some mary jane. :)

@Maggie Smith - I'm counting 5 different things you put into your system to get to sleep each night. Good lord! I suffer from extremes of insomnia and hypersomnalence (and, of course, never a happy medium!) but quite apart from adding those 5 to all the other pills I take daily (I'd positively rattle when I walked!), the price alone must be...??

I take 150 mg of Trazadone and 3 mg of melatonin. I have found something that actually helps me sleep through the night.
