Triggers that last several days

I bought the book "Healing from Trauma: A Survivor's Guide to Understanding Your Symptoms and Reclaiming Your Life" four days and was really looking forward to reading it.

I read the introduction and it was great. Then I read the title to the first chapter: "Shit Happens" (I'm sorry if that word is not allowed in this forum) and the first paragraph expanding on those two words and it was as if a truck had ran over me!

For the last 4 days, out of nowhere those two words come into my head and I'm instantly crying and turn into a bad-tempered wreck.

Needless to say, I couldn't read another word from the book. My mind keeps going back to those 2 simple words that mean so much.

Is that "normal"? Can something trigger you non-stop for so many days? If so, how do you get passed it? Any advice?

Humor might help? I can become so paranoid sometimes ... yes, it can last days to ... I'm unsure if weeks and months is technically right, but I have the same paranoid thoughts that reoccur with intermittent breaks. So, it isn't months continuously, but the reoccurance can lasts that long if you count the short breaks of several hours to several days in between, depending on if I've found a substantial distraction or not.

Have you ever seen that Sh*t Happens poster? I have it hanging in my bathroom. If it is too much of a trigger don't google it ... but if you think humor about it might help, google that poster image and click on the image with the blue background. You can also find it on Amazon.com. Allposters.com has the best image of it ... and just increase your screen font to 125% if you can't read it well.
