Well,

I wanted to let you know............

I was invitated in for an interview! It is on February 20th. I could use any positive vibes you can send my way.

It is a little bit intimidating, however, when I found out it is an ALL DAY interview. Talk about stretching!

I didn't think that there was still this part of me that existed, considering everything I've been through these past few years.

Wow, this has been a major surprise considering how very, very low my scores where are the GRE test and the fact that I have not been working in this field for 16 years.

Getting an interview doesn't mean I am accepted yet, but it's a step closer. Interviews are so anxiety provoking for me. Any helpful tips?

Awesome, just awesome.......I have no advice, as you seem to be doing just fine on your own...You go girl!!!!! Kick some serious ass in this interview...You can do this!!!!!

WOW!!!! I read that you had applied and was totally impressed with THAT!! Amazing work!!! You go kick butt at that interview!! (wow, wow, wow - even if you don't get selected, look at what you have accomplished already!)

:) Fantastic!

Yes! That is great news. One thing that might be helpful is to ask the graduate admissions department for the names of some recent grads and track them down and chat with them about their experiences to get the tone and feel of the program. You also might ask to audit a class or two. If the program is open to this it is a good sign it is flexible and will understand any special needs you may have. Not only are they making a major investment in you but you are making a major investment in them.

Ask for and review the school's/department's vision/mission statement. It may be on their website. Since this is an all day affair you may also want to ask for an advance copy of the schedule for the day.

Congratulations on leaping over the first hurtle.

Gee, thanks everyone. It feels funny and awkward to get positive feedback, not use to it I guess. It's hard to see myself in a positive light. I've always been or always felt that I was "less than" in the areas that seemed to really count in life.

Time for a change in that thinking.

Ever sense 2003 My husband and I have brainstormed ideas and possiblities to address how the public at large needs to be educated in understanding and knowing how to be helpful rather than hurtful to those of us who struggle with mental and emotional illness'.

I am thinking of doing my dissertation in this area in order to develop a training program, workshops, and conferences, etc. to educate, train, etc. people to assist in getting these needs meet. I would like to research to find out what are the best and most effective ways to meet the needs of those with mental health issues in a productive way.

Most people just do not understand this whole area of mental and emotional illnesses. They have come to understand individuals with Down's Syndrome, mental retardation, physically handicapped, drug and alcohol addictions, HIV virus etc. AND they provide various kinds of services, aids and asistant to help them make full use of their capablities.

Why not those of us with Mental health illnesses? There is such a huge need for the population at large, and other various organizations, agencies to understand this area and to know how to best meet these needs.

I won't get on my soap box about this here, maybe later in another thread, but I think it is an whole area that the world just ignores and misunderstands.

Well done and good luck! Please do get on your soap box any time!

In the U.S. of course a big percentage of the homeless population are former mental patients, having been turned out of their now-closed institutions with a bus ticket and out-patient instructions to come get their medication sometime. All mental illnesses have been shoved under the sociatal and governmental rugs, and lovely people like you stomping on soap boxes will benefit everyone.

Thanks much for posting, and take care,

Anni

I just wanted to add my congratulations to you for your success. I always regretted not doing a PH.D so am really glad you are not letting anything get in your way.
