What Are Your Re-association Tricks?

Further to my thread earlier. I'd love to know what peeps here do to un-dissociate. Like what is your 'trick'.

I forgot to share, I have found really loud heavy music brings me back. And washing my hands with very cold or hot water.
 
I (when I don't have a grade three ankle injury) tap dance barefoot because it hurts enough to give me a shock but the pain is isn't serious and is just momentary. Plus I love dancing ;)
 
@Solara kind of. To be honest I don't know a whole lot about dissociation, and kinda the terminology. Like tricks for how to make yourself 'present' and 'aware' when you feel kinda distant.
 
new here, I have rings from my husband, as well as one for quitting drinking and one for not harming.... when i get lost, I feel them on my fingers it distracts me from whatever phase im in at the time. physical reminder of here and now. had to set ground rules that they get put on every day, and put back on if i take them off for any reason besides going to bed.
 
For me it really can vary depending on what I'm going through. If its an emotional upheaval, what I term an "episode", then praying helps. If its just a space cadet type of thing where I feel nothing, then I start grasping at straws as it is a different type of dissociation. Last time it was sugar that grounded me. Unfortunately I had to keep on eating sugar so I was on a sugar high the whole day, but tis life. Other times I just end up floating out there in la la land because not much of anything brings me back and I have to wait it out until my mind feels safe again. I've tried a lot of grounding tools over the years, but I've gravitated toward the ones that work.
 
I sucked on super dour candies. Helped me wonders. As z kid I used to drink vinegar straight up without understanding shy. Lemons shock me out of it goo. Next life I will come back as an un-traumatized princess who lives in Tahiti. I deserve the break. You are all welcome to join me.
 
lol will take you up on that my anxious days im obsessively touching my rings and probably resemble gollum.. security objects are prescioussssssssssss.
 
I feel my feet on the ground, wiggle my toes. Mostly I just breathe all the way down... pushing my breath down and keep emphasizing the downward breath as I breathe. If I'm really off, sometimes I open the freezer door and stick my head in for a second or three.

Showering is a definite NO for me... found out its highly triggering if I'm already dissociating. Bath also bad.

It's taking me a while, but eventually my Good list and Avoid list starting collecting tried and proven methods.
