What to Do When Bored?

I have an adult coloring app that I can do on the PC, it is as good as meditation they say and I can spend hours at it. I also collect nature photos for the pure enjoyment of it, ...because nature's beauty inspires me, lifts my spirits, and gives me something positive to do.

I also paint wooden wall plaques, just find a good design, copy it with tracing paper, and then paint it with acrylic paints. Let it dry and finally, spray some clear coat on it to protect it. A small picture hanger attached to the back to hang it on and you're all done. That is if you are artistically inclined.

Bingo or other online games can be fun. I especially like the hidden object games as most are interspersed with puzzles to solve. I don't know if any of this will be helpful to you but it may give you ideas for your own projects.
 
When my son & the other kids were little I didn’t allow the word “bored” to be used in our house. It’s an ADHD thing, where the mind hyper focuses on the thing that’s disliked, rather than attempting to find the solution // a great big giant component in why punishing ADHD kids has virtually no effect except to make them mad. Carrots work, sticks not so much & have to be applied with extreme caution & focused intent.

Simple word sub - Uninspired.

Because it has the solution built right into it... if I’m uninspired? I need to find something that inspires me.

It’s also -quite frankly- HILARIOUS :hilarious: to have a 4yo turn a serious little face at you, and tell you that this music/performance/etc. is uninspiring.

Dealing with depression for the first time in my life (rage I was familiar with & have 10,000 tips/tricks/skills for, depression I’m pretty damn hopeless with)... BORED :banghead: has gotten its foot in the door for the first time in decades. But it’s mostly a good thing? Because staring at the wall/floor/horizon no longer encompasses all of my attention. I don’t have the mental/emotional/physical energy to actually DO anything ...yet... but the DESIRE to is beginning to return. It’s vexing in the extreme, which is also probably a good thing? Energy beginning to build, in any event.
- If I’m physically fit I’ve learned I need to seize that moment/energy & USE it. Get up, do something, do anything. And the spark will blow into a nice big flame of life to be lived. The more I do, the stronger the flame, the more energy I have, the more joïe de vivre.
- If I’m sick/injured/recovering, however, I have to be super careful & just ride the boredom & irritation out... because if I try to do too much, too soon, the spark goes out. Psst.

So... what I do when I’m bored is to look for the source of it.

Am I simply uninspired? Or am I coming out of a depression?
We didn’t allow the word bored either, I think that’s so funny.
 
I have lots of ideas about this because I totally have overcome it to some extent. I want to be at home. I love being at home, I never wanted to do anything else.

I have people so that eliminates much of the problem because I have to help “take care” of everyone. We are four adults and the house needs renovation. That eliminates boredom, so can you fix up where you are. Or get someone to take care of, someone less fortunate that you can help. Cooking and cleaning and making sure there is food takes up lots of time.

Then there is an instrument which is art. Depends on your situation you mightn’t be able to get a trumpet or drums, but today lots of things are digitised and you can use headphones . I play a guitar. I can play it quietly. Practice is an accomplishment and it’s rewarding. I don’t get tired of it. I used to play video games, but gave them up finally for guitar.

I find boredom’s very scary personally. The things I meantioned work for me and I also like YouTube and playing with my iPhone . I don’t have enough time to get to all this obviously. I complain a lot but it keeps me busy.

I didn’t mention sex and my relationship lol. That’s first before any of this : )
 
So I didn't see this yet, but when I'm truly bored and nothing helps, I will take a nap. Which might be simple, but sometimes laying down for an hour even if I don't end up sleeping can help me re-center. And sometimes I just fall asleep and knock out 3 hours right there! ?
