I call it the cycle of life based on my personal experiences. The ying and the yang. The light and the dark. We spend our whole lives striving for some semblance of balance between the "good" and the "bad", and often get super excited at the "good" stuff, especially when it's been so incredibly foreign to us the rest of our lives, only to discover there's no actual finish line to arrive at where it's all good from there, but rather an ongoing balancing act of self-care that can easily trip us up.

I call them "flare ups." There is always a trigger. For me that trigger had been family. I chose to have nothing to do with them or even tell them where I am living. I don't know about anyone else but when they constantly trigger me and try to kill me, they are not family, they are psychotic.

I call it being symptomatic too. Maybe symptoms spikes if I’m feeling hopeful it will pass quickly. I’ve used the term relapse too. It isn’t just for addictions but other conditions as well. For example, there is relapse-remitting MS - it comes and goes.
