Why Did You Choose That Username And/Or That Avatar (Or No Avatar At All)?

My choicing of Therisa, is honouring my parents' choice of name, had I been born female, and will become my legal name, when I sumbit the forms, to do so. Sadly, my mom can't handle this, and refuses to call me, by my new name. As for my avatar, I found it on-line during a google search for Transgender symbols. My avatar combines two symbols of the transcommunity, the butterfly and the trans' symbol, which merges the male and female symbols together, with a third one that has, both male and female. I want people to realize, being trans doesn't make me, a monster to be feared by others.

I recently changed my avatar to a Lion and his cub to represent that I am in the process of re-parenting myself. The Lion is my adult self and the cub, is my child-self.

I am re-wiring my brain to think more realistically and optimistically and this takes a lot of retraining...unlearning things that are negative and don't fit, and replacing them with healthier thoughts and beliefs.

I have to change my avatar. I picked a picture quickly at random because I suddenly didn't want my old one any more for reasons I won't go into. It was meant to be a temporary stopgap until I chose something with more care. That was ages ago. I don't even really like it. I like the fact that it's colourful though. Have to get round to picking a new one... sometime....

I keep switching my avatars about once a month. I just don't like anything stagnate. Right now it is Buddy, my little terrier mix. I couldn't stand looking at me anymore. But that is okay for now. She's cute.

My current avatar is a reflection of the inner peace and healing work I have done. It shows a Lion with the wind in his hair and the sun on his face and it seems appropriate for when I am doing well.

I love my avatar because I like koalas but....

I have just watched a TV program about them.
  • They sleep for 18 hours a day - well lucky them!
  • The koala babies eat the mother's diarrhoea!
  • 80% of koalas are infected with chlamydia.
  • The infected ones are incontinent of urine - continuously - and therefore stink...

Is it time I changed to something else?

My current avatar is a skydiver to remind me of perspective. When airborne under a parachute, the world unfolds at your feet and you see that all limits you believed in before, have dissapeared. The horizon has changed; and you know now that beyond horizons are other horizons. All limits are in fact illusions caused by having too little perspective and being to close to the matters at hand.

My username is Radise because it was one of the great memories I have of being a kid. My dad helped me grow some radishes in the backyard and I remember very clearly digging the first ones up and being very proud of having grown them! Radishes taste neat yet sharp, too, and they have a very decisive color ;-)

This is just a silly social thread about ones avatar. I got asked, and I'm sure a few have been asked why they chose their own avatar.

I'll start with mine. The avatar is that of the Potoo bird. It's not photoshopped, and it's not only the cool look why I chose it. It helps remind me to keep cool under pressure, which the Potoo does quite well. It does it because it pretends to be an extension of a tree, extending its head out to look like a broken branch.

I won't lie though. It is an awesome looking bird, even if it isn't a duck.
