Sufferer Witnessed Elder Abuse For Over A Year

New Here
I am a home support worker and for over a year I watched my full time client be abused by her daughter. I tried to get out of the situation but couldn't and I tried to stop it but nobody would help me. After all my efforts I ended up hurting my back, shoulder, arm, and hand trying to stop the abuse and now I am on disability and have had multiple surgeries to correct the damage. I am living with physical pain from injuries as well as the physical and emotional pain from my depression. Every day I relive the events and some days it is like I am really there. I don't know where to go from here I am so lost. To make matters worse, I am still employed by the same firm who placed me with the client and even as I write this they are trying to send me out to clients.

Hello welcome to the forum. Have you tried seeking some kind of therapy or counseling? If at all possible I would recommend this, I have found my therapist to be a great source of support. In the mean time this forum is another great source of support and information.

Hi Lost-Jesse,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum! :)

I am sorry you had to witness the abuse, and a credible employer would have a means for addressing this situation and support for their employees when faced with this type of situation. If and when you are released to go back to work, counseling and I would suggest a different employer would be helpful.

Take care.

Debbie

Hi Lost Jessie,

I know exactly the kind of 'company' you work for. They get paid 20 bucks and hour and you get 8? We had one for my father, the workers were wonderful, the head of the company hounded hounded hounded us when we terminated his services. He's still digging out from being turned in to AARP, Social Services, our county Area on Aging- several others.

I'm so sorry you're going through what you are. Welcome here, you'll find it awfully helpful for a ton of reasons.

I can understand ( believe me ) how tough it is to get anyone to listen when you have something to say on elder abuse. Could I suggest a letter campaign, unsigned if that would make it easier for you? Write what you witnessed, the entire story, send copies to every, single agency you can think of plus possibly the minister of this elderly person's church if you can find this. Send one to the closest State Police office, if you want to see things get toasty in a big hurry.

Sorry so long with this. I've just had an awful lot of contact with your field of employment and gosh, Thank You. We couldn't have done it without you folks. We've ( my husband and I, and a few others ) also had to stop elder abuse, was much luckier than you with that because I had more resources. I can't say more ( our attorney has the reins.... ), just do hope your healing is much aided by being here.

Do take care,

Anni
