Jimmy--

Thanks for not just telling me to f*ck off.

I am not like that mate. Can you hear a knock on your door though??? :cautious:

I am just glad I have a good therapist, a good MD, and a good psych, but more importantly I have this place.

Nearly four years ago I was hoping I found the right site. The guys on it are no longer around, apart from Anthony, but he sticks to the other forums mainly and only really takes part if asked or if there is an issue, or if he happens to be scoping it out.
I asked him to make comment because he knows the books better than anyone I know, apart from my psych, but I only see him every three months.

Preston, I appreciate your honesty and you can say what you like, and as I have said to everyone, as long as you don't get personal you are entitled to your opinion.

Thanks

To further some explanation to distinguish between adjustment and PTSD, if you go digging into studies on PTSD treatments where they use a wait group as their control group, being people who endured traumatic events, though instead of receiving the cognitive treatment they are placed in the control group who receives no treatment, other than time (waiting).

Many of those participants who fit PTSD, by the end of the 12 week study period (3 months), a majority no longer fit the diagnostic criteria from nothing other than time. When those studies also measure at six months, it is normal to find that of the control group, 80% no longer fit the diagnostic criterion. They received no treatment, no medications, nothing... their sole mission was to let time go by and see whether they healed by themselves or not.

So if you can see control groups no longer meet diagnostic criterion from initial assessment in the realm of 60% - 80% of sufferers diagnosed as having PTSD, then that means there is scope that 60% - 80% of diagnoses for PTSD are actually adjustment disorder.

Even with immediate treatment, if the person no longer meets diagnostic criterion within six months following the trauma, chances are much more likely they have adjustment disorder, not PTSD.

Went through adjustment disorder, couple of times, from different theatres. Worst of that shit was coming back from NI (although the twitchiness stood me in good stead later, as Dan84 has noted).
Yep, combat PTSD is a different animal and involves a far harder set of imprints, although I do believes it drives the adjustment nails further in requiring more pulling out.
