I came from a family of self absorbed, control freak, narcissists.

Though I moved away, they still tried anything they could to maintain a level of power over me. If you dare to move away and cease all contact, you get tracked down and punished for it. They'll use feigned concern for your welfare, calling law enforcement to check on you. Really they just want confirmation of where you live and to try to own you, again.

So, now most (not all) of my family have passed. I'm kinda free of them. Still have an IVO on one of them. But, are you ever really free? The damage caused is so lasting.

That's why I'm here. I have PTSD, officially diagnosed.

Welcome! My friend grew up with narcissistic parents as well. The abuse is horrible! She has noticed ptsd symptoms and relives her past experiences via flashbacks. I hope you find the support you need here!

Welcome, and speaking for myself... I am free of THEM... not free of some of my actions or reactions to situations, but for the most part, it is without feelings of the past, just like a movie with no sound.... it's more a frame of reference than a place of hurt or fear.
Tho I still struggle with some of the damage done by the emotional abuse... I am amazed and very proud of how far I have come....
