Medical Retirement

Hey Sarg

Thanks for the update. Guess I'm still using logic when it come to the VA.

What the hell was I thinkin'

Update: Why is it that no where is it mentioned that if you apply for disability and unemployability due to PTSD that you're deemed incompetant?

Unfortunately many things come along with that tag if placed there by the VA. So is this just another 'catch 22' on their part to just give with one hand and f**k you with the other?

Got a call in to my DAV advocate to see what he says about it. Yikes.

Unemployability is another matter entirely. Under Unemployability, you are not 100% disabled. You're less than 100% but greater than 70% and your disability renders you incapable of employment. They don't declare incompetancy in that case.

The whole problem here is someone is trying to make PTSD a psychotic disease. VA? GSA? I don't know, but I do know that there is a lot of pressure to push PTSD away from a stress disorder to a manic one. Best way to do that? Hold them up like a badge at every opportunity and say "we can't let these crazy Vets have guns!!!".

Well, there's a hell of a lot of green in the sand and active LEOs, Drs., Lawyers, you name it who are Vets and have PTSD that would argue all the above.

Divide and conquer?

Hey Sarg

Interesting how it all gets so convoluted. I know my psych and several others at the clinic where I go that would fight like hell to make sure that PTSD stays what it is, a stress related disorder.

As always it seems like the wrong people are at the wheel.

Hi,
I was told a few days ago from my wizard that he wants to run a medical board on me for my PTSD. He want and says I will be medically retired. But I know that is dependent on the board. Anyone with any experience in this have any insight? I am about 5 months from my EAS. I know I will be a med hold but what does medical retirement look like for PTSD? Will I be barred from buying firearms or owning them? I am an avid competitive shooter and I fought for the second amendment, the idea that I cannot own one is appalling. My fear is that there will be adverse things like the example I just mentioned.

Thanks,
DMH, USMC active

PS sorry if the gun issue seems petty or asinine to some members.

Depends on what state you will reside in, the type of firearm, and what, if any permits you have. Also depends on mental health and criminal record. For instance nobody is gonna come and take your guns, unless you end up drunk and holed up with an M-14 in your house holding cops at bay or something like that. Keep in mind in many places, any history of a mental health "incident" can prevent you from getting future permits and firearms.(I was unable to renew my permit to carry concealed though....)

If it helps, even after the cops dragged me out of the house, the only reason my guns are gone is my father removed them at behest of my wife.

Med boards take a while...you may EAS before you board out, as happened to my brother. This is a bad thing as he lost a ton of money as a result. Unless you have 20 years in, it is possible the med retirement pays more than if you have less than 20 in. Each case is different.

DMH, no one knows what gun rights we will have here in the next few months. These ceaseless school shootings have given the hard left the leverage to push their agenda hard and I don't know if Constitutionalists will be able to stop them this time.

The way the law was...if you were not decleared 100% PTSD, nor judged to be incompetant by a Dr. or judge you had every right to have firearms. There is language in the 100% rating that declares incompetantce. Layer on top of that your particular state laws and you have an idea.

I will not get political here as this is not the place. But I do see we Veterans being disarmed. And the reason has nothing to do with the school shootings. We defended our nations once, we can do it again. Some people don't like that.

Welcome C, Sniper hey. A little intro would be nice.

A lot of us were in the same boat. I had not long been promoted to Warrant Officer down here in Australia and had just mapped out my next 10 years. the next thing I know I did not care if I even shaved in the morning.
