The first time I touched a scout I got cut a little and the rust got into my blood. Sorry but I cant but help love all IH esp my scouts. I used to part them out. I would find one in a farmers field, buy it for 200 and try to get it retitled and running. Failing that, I would part them out down to the bare frame. Countless scouts were recycled this way and the useable parts were then sold to keep other scouts going. I made some good friends from this. And I had one scout I held onto with the hopes of making a real nice truck out of. I worked at saving the parts and hording things to make it great. a new 4" lift spring kit. 33inch tires. better rims and body panels. all the things she needed to be all she could be. And the wife always had her hand out when I made money from the parts sales. I never seemed able to put it back into the scout as was the plan. Finally with the knee gone to shit and 3 years of sitting on the scout I sold it. I cried that day.
I want another scout someday. badly. I look at the jeep with some envy. I just wanted a decent 4x4 rig that I could claim I built not kitted together. you cant buy parts for a scout like you can a jeep. Everything must be scratch built. Maybe my next scout will be fancy. Like a scout 2 not another 800. But I know one day it will happen.
