Aromatherapy And Essential Oils

Thank you @ladee That really does help. When looking through amazon the choices and brand were too much to even attempt. I didn't want to get ripped off with some watered down version. I need to stay away from lavender because of an old girlfriend.

So most people actually spray themselves with the stuff? I was thinking you just sniffed the bottle..shows you what I know.

I just ordered the Hawaiian Tropic tan oil for the scent. I'll try to incorporate the smell with my EMDR place. You know another pavlovian trigger to solicit relaxation based off my safe place. I already relax my shoulders when I say my "safe word".

Thanks for letting me know about the brand Mannatech and that you can rely on quality.

Sometimes just smelling it out of the bottle helps in that moment of , saying you want to get grounded...but I use base oil, peppermint and eucalyptus for body pain... a good amount of base oil, then say, 15 to 20 drops of the other two... spray on my knees and massage it in... I have to spray it on my hand to put it on my back of course.... it just goes deep into the muscles and tendons unlike many topical analgesics...

And you can also research how to use different scents for different things... like many people find lavender very calming... or other smells like orange or lemon for energy.... I'm sure others here may have some links that would help... but researching can be fun... remember you are supposed to be putting some 'fun' in your life !!! So you get a win-win here on this one...

Mr Moonlight, there are no oils that smell like 'coconut'. At least not in the way you are thinking. Most are plant derivatives.

Please don't beat yourself up over your not being able to decide. I went through stress like you wouldn't believe when I was attempting to pick out oils for myself. It all rolled into my 'I couldn't make a decision if it saved my life' mode. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :blackeye:

Anyway...... I went for a sampler pack. Just so I didn't have to decide. There are some amazing nervine essential oils. I ordered a couple of them as well and they do help. My favourite is labdanum. Here is some info on nervines. There are some that are meant to ramp up the nervous system and others to calm it down. It all depends on what you want from it. I have several concoctions made up for myself. I have tons of recipes (?) for lack of a better word to share. That's the cool thing about EO's. Everyone likes something just a little different than others.

You don't need to get a spray bottle. I sometimes have one (for my peppermint spray). Or I have another for my Orange Creamsicle that I just open and inhale. The stuff is magic, I swear. :inlove:

Anyway be careful of the MML (Multi Level Marketing) that comes along with some brands like DoTerra and Young Living Oils.

Rocky Mountain Oil (which I can't order dammit), I have heard is a very good brand. You will hear all sorts of dire warnings about non organic stuff. You can worry about that later as I assume you won't be licking it, just smelling it. So here is a link to Rocky Mountain....
Rocky Mountain Oils

I wouldn't buy blends either. They are stupid expensive, and truthfully, it is fun to blend. :whistling:

If I were to purchase samples at this point I would order something like this....
Lemon or Lime
Orange (or clementine, burgamont, mandarin)
Sandalwood
Frankinsense
Grapefruit
vetiver
PalmaRosa
Peppermint
Vanilla

And Tea Tree is always a standard 'have in the cupboard' oil as well. I know.... it's a lot. I won't ever forget how my head spun around while making my 'essential oil decision'. :woot::woot::wtf:

Thanks @shimmerz, that helped me too... thanks for the links... going to check those out... I was gifted mine, so didn't have to have a brain collapse trying to figure it out... I like the brand I use and have a distributor here in town... so it's about me keeping it simple...
See @MrMoonlight, told ya someone would come on with info.... so there ya have it... thanks again Shimmy !!!

I'm so happy you posted that shimmerz. I feel like I need a little more time before researching something like this. Those links and lists will be my guide right now. Thank you @shimmerz

Every third day I use a safety razor, brush and soap to shave. My shave soap has always been sandalwood scented so I know that would be pleasant/grounding for me. I like all the sampler scents you posted except a couple unknown to me but I'll try to pick a set close to you recommendations.

Orange
Lemon
Grass
Vanilla
well they all sound great.

I'd sure like a goto scent for calming down or grounding as well as sleep and lifting spirits. I'll sure give it a try..

Loving Sense is one of the brands I get from my massage therapist. I can't remember the others off the top of my head, but one of the brands is sold at our local Martin's grocery store and it starts with an Au...something or other. I'm too pooped to go look right now.

I keep the orange in my diffuser necklace the most, but also like the eucalyptus, peppermint, and frankincense depending on the day. Rosemary is a bit too strong for me to keep right under my nose all day, but I enjoy it on a clothespin close by on occasion. Wooden clothespins are an inexpensive way to drip a few drops on it and put in the car, or on the bottom a curtain (one of my favorite spots since it's next to a favorite chair), or wherever you can think of.

They also have diffusers with wooden dowels, so it might be easy to make one with shishkabob (however you spell it) sticks/skewers, or something. Not sure what other liquid you'd put in with the oil to be absorbed into the sticks, as I've never had one. Water, maybe?

In the summer, one of my favorite ways to keep cool is to have a spray bottle filled with water and a about 8-10 drops of peppermint oil. I even prefer it over the a/c in the car, as long as the windows are rolled down. lol I spray it all over, being careful not to get it in my eyes. It's a lifesaver at outdoor festivals and such.

I use wool dryer balls instead of fabric softener sheets and will put a few drops of the orange on them sometimes.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but those are a few of my favorites. Enjoy experimenting and may you find your most healing aroma grooves.

A wooden clothespin... you are a genius @Tornadic Thoughts !!! Among many other accolades... but that I can do... so simple. Today my house still smells of garlic shrimp !! I know there has to be wooden dowels in all that craft stuff, and can use them too... and will have to research a diffuser necklace... guess that would be more effective than the few drops on toilet paper stuck down the front of my bra !!! I had the right idea, just not very classy !!

Hope this thread stays open for awhile, I need information from tried and true users so that I don't waste money .... Thanks !!

LMAO...that toilet paper roll reminds me of one of my first essential oil experiences, @ladee . I read where you could put some in your toilet paper roll of the roll you're currently using to help freshen up the bathroom. So I used peppermint. They failed to mention that it would get absorbed into the toilet paper itself, so near the bottom of the roll, my bottom got a weird ass sensation (pun intended) and I quickly learned that isn't a very wise way to go about freshening my potty. You don't want direct skin contact from an undiluted oil...especially in such sacred spaces. lol But I continued to use the empty rolls for a long time as the medium to drop some oil on and place wherever I wanted to smell it. Handy dandy, indeed!

The other brands of oils I've used thus far but was too tired to go look for last night are, Everyday Nature (I got that one from my chiro's office) and the organic version of the Aura Cacia (I can pick that up at my local Martin's grocery store).

Our local health store (lol...I always have to laugh about that, as what does it say about all the other stores???...just like the "health food" aisles in the grocery) sells the little glass roller ball bottles that I love to use. I buy the fractionated coconut oil to use in it so it doesn't solidify, then add a few drops of peppermint. It's great for headaches...just roll some on temples and forehead.

I also like to have a citrus based one, or lemongrass, to use as my preferred "perfume" roller. I've also had some stubborn dry skin patches that can get itchy, so I mix fractionated coconut oil with some neem oil in the roller thingy and can take it with me on the run so I don't have to worry about getting back home so quickly to moisturize my hands from my big tub of cold-pressed coconut oil. Good stuff!

In the summer, one of my favorite ways to keep cool is to have a spray bottle filled with water and a about 8-10 drops of peppermint oil.

Peppermint spray sounds wonderful, I will for sure try this. It's alway warm in my state so this could be a year around technique for me. Rollerball, porous non fragrant wood, spray bottles...thanks for posting these recommendations.

I received an amazon gift card and found really good use for it. I purchased a sample set (below), frankincense and a set of blue glass spray bottles. I need more help and hope I can find a scents to aide in my wellness.

Honestly I don't know what I'm doing but with everyone's help in this thread I think I got some okay stuff. I intend to use the spray bottles for peppermint..orange...idk

Okay, so you want to start with understanding the oils that you have. For instance, be careful with the eucalyptus. It needs to be diluted in a carrier oil for sure because it can set off a negative reaction. The following is a good site for further information on each of your oils.

Search other sites as well for recipes that you can make. This link is a great one for complete newby's. Honest to god, just keep with it. I had SO much stress when I first started with the EO's, but now, I absolutely love them. They are a great outlet for my limited right brain. I can be creative with them!
