one more thing, I have an 11-year-old and I'm really worried about her experience of me being away so I'm hoping I can coordinate it with her being at sleep away camp for 2 weeks. I'm afraid to stay much longer than that because of how it will impact her. Hoping that's enough time. They said the average stay is 21 days.

I would say acceptance and true knowledge of PTSD/DID. THey are VERY consistent in their treatment o...

I have a lot of questions regarding Sheppard party's trauma program. I have severe depression as well. Would this still be a good fit? Are there other good Good programs out there?

Hi Everyone,

I just got back from Sheppard Pratt Trauma Disorders Unit in Towson, MD. It was a phenominal program. It is rated one of the top programs in the country. The doctor I had Dr. Loewenstein and Dr. Wait are the top doctors in the world for PTSD and DID. I learned a lot and am using some awesome skills they gave me. If anyone has any questions about the program I'm here to help. If you are on the edge and want to get inpatient treatment I encourage you to do it. I was VERY apprehensive at first but am super happy I went. I feel like I can live again!!!
Hi there. I’m considering treatment but I’ve heard it’s a production to get admitted. Is that true?

Any advice regarding what I'm saying would help.
Most treatment facilities are just a lockup. They end up doing more retraumatizing than therapeutic intervention

I haven't been there for a year and a half, so things may have changed. You have to get your therapist/psychiatrist to fill out a long form about you and they look at it in their big staff meeting and make determinations as to who can benefit, who fits into their milieu, and who doesn't. When I went, it generally took about a week or two to hear the final determination and then a couple weeks after that to get off the waiting list. I have been denied once since then, though, and my psychiatrist told me that they seem to be denying people more frequently. I think she might have said the wait list is longer, too. But I cannot verify these things.

I don't know what you mean by a "production," but it's certainly more work than just walking into a crisis center and getting admitted.

Hi there could i ask you some questions? I'm looking into attending the trauma program and would love to talk to someone about it!

@ALS1988 It looks like the last time the member was logged into the site was in 2014, so it’s unlikely they’ll get your message. There are quite a few threads on SP’s inpatient trauma program, including a few more recent ones, that may answer your questions.
