OBGYN after effects :(

I haven't had an exam since my child was born. He is 22 now. I have no partners so I am a low risk. I went to my doctor's, and the MA said I would be having a pelvic. I said no, and she insisted I was in a parental voice. She continued to argue with me until I started having a panic attack. I was able to bring myself out with the help of the doctor, who agreed I didn't have to have a pelvic until they could use conscious sedation. Maybe use that next time?

CSA survivor here also with a history of ovarian cysts. Not sure if it’s a connection or a coincidence but it would be interesting to research either way.

I also have trouble going to the gyn. It’s very very hard. I find that Nurse Practitioners are often was more understanding of trauma. There’s something about a nursing background that just makes them way more kind.

A lot of people on here haven't even been able to go for years. For myself, even with past risk factors, around 8. You did very well.
Thank you so much ☺️
I hope it gets easier for you

Very curious that you should ask this. I have had multiple cysts - even had them surgically popped once- but then get new ones. I have never for one minute thought there could be any connection with child abuse. Have you heard of a connection yourself?
On “Dr. Google” I’ve seen people say there may be a connection. But when I asked this doc he said no. Funny thing though, your story and mine are so similar. I’ve had multiple ones. Anddd, even had surgery to remove one but they just came back. Weird... maybe there’s something to this? Hmm ?

Do you mean Nurse practitioners working in an obgyn office?

Very interesting that you too have cysts... @Lucycat and @roaringrachel , any idea on how we can research this together? Perhaps start off by creating a forum dedicated to this? Do either of you know how? I’ve always wondered...

I started to research it, found one article that shows a correlation between fibroids and CSA, found another interesting study but got triggered so I had to stop and do grounding all day. Maybe someone else could look.
I’m sorry you got triggered ?. Let me know if you’d like us to include you in a forum (if we create one)

So sorry that happened to you :( can you just clarify as to what I can use next time?

No, I'm sorry I don't know how. I was initially included in some research studies by a London hospital, and was invited to send in blood samples which I did. But they also wanted samples from other family members who declined - my 2 brothers and my parents. My sister was already deceased by this time. So my data will be in the big pool of data, but with nothing around it. And this was all before my history of abuse was known to the authorities.

Anyway, we then moved house so are lost to ongoing research.

It is fascinating, but I am not sure that there will be a biological answer.

This may sound weird to you, but I am now at the other end of this debate. I am 54.5 years old. My doctor is insisting that I must have been through the menopause. But I take 'the pill' to control mood swings. If I stop for a week, I still bleed - so to me this means I still need to take it. The locum GP is not being helpful. My own GP returns soon from maternity leave, so I hope she will understand.

I feel like I had problems with puberty, and now all these years later the medical profession is making things into a problem now , when it doesn't need to be.

Can you expand on this? What kind of puberty problems? What are they making into a problem now?

Another CSA survivor with cysts here. But with me it was probably a 'one time thing' for as far as I know. Maybe a couple times. I don't remember, really..

In my country you don't have to go for checkups. I've been in the office a couple of times as a result of the sexual abuse later in life. Once I had to get an ultrasound, so I was ok with that, untill they came with a freaking dildo, apparently they had to do one from the inside.
Screaming, crying, panicking.
They took the time for me though and I ended up getting the ultrasound anyways.
I don't think I've gone back since then.

Hey @Smile
Just wanted to let you know I completely understand the effects you experience from OBGYN.

I hate going and panic about it days before, during, and after. I reschedule many as well.

I personally see a woman but that’s because those who hurt me were men. She is nice but I still agonize over the appointment and leave out many important details I know I need to share with her related to my health because I just freeze up and want to get out of there.

You may want to give that Doctor one more chance once he has the paperwork and tests back to look at to answer your questions but if he is still short with you I would find someone else.

If you need to find someone new I would try asking a nurse (if you know one) if she can recommend one. If you aren’t comfortable telling her what happened to you then maybe you could say someone else asked you? Just a suggestion. That’s basically how I found mine and I discovered nurses know who all the good Doctors are.

Interesting! I too have experienced CSA and cysts. Thanks for posting.

I generally turn to dissociation, but I have zero issue firing my doctors. If we don't "gel" I'm on to finding someone else. I won't be dismissed or talked down to by a doctor. My doctor now is really patient and listens. It makes all of the difference in the world.

I think cysts are pretty common in the normal population. That would make it seem like there is a correlation here since we have no control group. However, that doesn't mean there isn't one.
just clarify as to what I can use next time?

It is sedation by a doctor. You get an IV port, and they use medication that helps you relax and forget. It has to be set up in advance. They do it for many surgeries. You have to ask your doctor.

you’d like us to include you in a forum
I would like that!
