@Friday wiki's right, it's regional.though not only that - a bacon butty is a bacon sandwichd between slices of bread. A Bap is like a dinner roll. I think Butty is a term used through more places in the UK to mean Sandwich. Where a dinner roll seems to have far more regional differences in name. So I grew up calling that a bacon roll. But have moved around the UK, and liked the term bap most and kept it. Appropriated it if you like. Other terms are Barm cakes - or where my Dad and Grandparents are from it's a batch. And so on :)
