I have been trying to find a health insurance plan on the marketplace. It has to be decided very soon. I was reading the fine print on the one that my therapist is on and it says that after 30 sessions I would have to get approved for more. This led me down an anxiety rabbit hole that they will know all of my details or possibly not approve me. I have been with my therapist for 4 years for c-ptsd. Every so often I think that my sessions may space out, eventually leading to my success in healing. However, the thoughts about insurance being involved is terrifying to me. Also, I have about 6 sessions a month and I can’t imagine going less than weekly on a regular basis.

How much will the insurance company know? Do they typically approve more sessions after the initial ones? Will they make me see someone else? It took me four years to get to a trusted place of actually telling her things and looking at her instead of her feet. What are your insurance experiences?

I don't know if it works the same but I have had the same situation multiple times with physical therapists. It went like this: I had therapy the maximum number of times allowed, PT asked my primary care for a new referral because the PT thought I still needed PT, my primary care sent a new referral, and we carried on with the therapy just like we had been. I don't think I ever even went back to my primary care for them to verify that I still needed PT. Again, I'm not sure if it exactly the same, but I imagine it is similar.

You may want to ask your therapist how that goes down if you haven't already.

Best of luck to you.

I plan to ask her tomorrow. All of this insurance stuff causes me to panic. I don’t typically like or use HMO’s but it is the only thing we can afford at the moment.

I get it. Medical insurance stuff is really anxiety producing for me, too. I hope you can find a low stress answer, ASAP.

I have a Medicare Supplement plan G with United Health Care. It's been great. I think you have to be 65 in order to qualify.

@Changing4Best not there yet, in my years. I called the center and my pcp office. Luckily, they both take this insurance! I also believe that my dermatologist is on there. Apparently, the Pre-certification is more about paperwork. She assured me that my particular T stays on top of it.

They also informed me that personal details aren’t revealed, it’s more of a checklist and treatment plan.

That sounds about like some insurance I had before being 65. Everything worked out pretty well with it too, except the cost to see a Specialist was more than what one would expect to pay. I hope your policy is the same price for all copays. That works best.
