I’m proud of myself bc I didn’t do it in an immature way like I have in the past. I DIDN’T walk out mid-session. I told T what I was feeling. Unfortunately she didn’t have any magical cure so I don’t think I’ll be going back…

And that kills me.

Explanation:

My T, P-doc AND housing ALL come from the same clinic. My T needs to answer to her supervisor as well as anyone else who may need inclined the organization.

So the whole, “Whatever you say here doesn’t leave here” just doesn’t exist for me.

And now I have no T. Not good. To say the least

I lost the BEST therapist I’ve ever had

Nobody has a magic cure, so does that mean you won't be going back to therapy at all?

Doesn't sound like you actually "lost" your therapist, though. You chose to leave her. If she was the best therapist you ever had, might you reconsider and try to work things out?

Sorry. Not sure I understand. Are you saying that there was an issue with privacy? I used to go to a clinic where my T also had a supervisor. That didn't mean that what I said would be shared, though. A therapist is bound by certain privacy rules; can you say more about your concerns?

You may of hit on some of the issue. I think I need more detailed clarity on my privacy.

A few months ago I was hospitalized for suicidal ideation (with some planning) & “Opoid addiction”. The decision to go to hospital was made by my therapist, her supervisor, psychiatrist. And then of course I agreed.

When I was discharged the hospital said it would be a good idea for me to go to a higher level of care b4 going back to my regular.

It didn’t happen because it’s really hard to find places.

But last week, all of a sudden , my T tells me that this organization will stop allowing T and P-doc services if I don’t go a higher level of care place. I asked her what specific reasons they have for thinking I need higher level. She said PTSD is not in control and addiction to pills.

That greatly upset me.
A. I feel like I’m being treated as a child
B. I think they’re classifying me as an addict when it’s more nuanced than that and I’m not your typical addict
C. This hit the hardest: I started thinking back to ANYTHING I may have told T re taking 1 extra pill here and there for my anxiety and that that was retold to someone else I never met (her supervisor) as well as anyone else in the organization that wants/needs to know about this.

Does this clarify?

Is it possible that what your describing is a place where their funding is tied to certain things? For instance I have a cousin who helps with a women’s shelter and her therapy services are tied to housing. Meaning that they have certain things they HAVE to do. Like a flow chart if x happens then y must happen if y doesn’t fix it then a must happen. Or in your case you were hospitalized because you were suicidal and while they released you they probably only did because of cost or beds so they wanted you to go into some sort of supervised living which unfortunately wasn’t available. So I’m the mean time you’re seeing your therapist and while things may have changed maybe not enough to take you out of the danger zone. Now they have space for you in what should have been the case before and they’d like to do it because you are still very symptomatic and you have the pills to do something in a moment.

If this is not what you want to happen then ask what are the parameters for it not to.

Ask if what you say is truly confidential if it can be used against you. Also remember that their are laws that exist that don’t totally protect you. If you say you’re going to kill yourself, their obligated to take action.

Ask why this is happening now when it didn’t when you were much more symptomatic.

Tell them the reasons you don’t think it should be happening.

Tell your therapist how you feel about losing her and that this event has made you think that might still be necessary.

I’m sorry that all of your world is tied together, that has to be rough. I live in three separate worlds 1 as a worker, 1 as just me at home, and another as the person who goes to therapy. I think it would be hard to have all those worlds combine.

Thanks for all those questions to ask!!! So so helpful 😄

I DID see her. Asked her a few of above questions but most importantly, in detail, what she tells her supervisor about me.

She gave me an example from recently and that one made total sense.

I’ve agreed to continue with her because I think (& hope) the good outweighs the possible bad.

Thank you SO much!!!
