Does anyone get painful shooting sensations, a bit like electric shocks in their head? I think they might be related to some sort of trauma reaction as they started as frequent fear sensations, like a rush of adrenaline sensation that you get when you witness something bad about to happen, but then at some point they were almost constant and turned into rushes of pain/shooting pains into my head. I've had them for years, no doctor has a clue what I'm talking about.

Are you on any medications? Brain shocks can be related to psychotropic meds (I think it’s SSRIs, but I haven’t had my morning coffee yet!).

If it’s getting more frequent, it’s worth seeing a neurologist.

I've had that before, not on any meds. I've assumed them to be from my neck or back or shoulder (injuries), or a sinus or eye infection, possibly even inner ear, or TMI (I think is the term- facial pain- I have had facial injuries). (The brain itself cannot feel pain, but nerve pain is considered the most painful to deal with). Possibly even shingles or something I don't know exists. Also mine if I recall occurred with changes in posture/ body position. Covid had unbelievable headaches. I agree with @Sideways . Best wishes in finding out the cause and hopefully alleviating or managing it!

I’d agree with sideways if you are taking medication.

I’ve had a TBI + shoulder damage + a neck injury so have got some nerve damage in those areas. I’ve noticed when I am tense, especially through my shoulders and bracing my neck I can get severe shooting pains up/into/over the back of my head. Usually need to remind myself to drop my shoulders down, warm the area up, get a massage and give it all a good stretch out?

Maybe something to consider as well if the medication avenue is fruitless. Lots of stress is held through the neck/shoulder area.

I'm not on any SSRIs and am on meds for autoimmune disorder, but it was very frequent before that, so it's not them. I have tried SSRIs before, and stopped them abruptly, but again it states prior to that.

It started after having kids along with the same time autoimmune disorder started and the meds for that have helped slightly, but always comes back with hormonal changes.

It's actually mostly my in my forehead and face when it's random and no trigger, goes with like momentary rush of sweating /adrenaline but for just split seconds over and over.

Then also happens with changes in temperature, when I'm in the sun or bright light as well, when my heart rate changes from walking to stopping, when I feel sudden fear is the worst though, then it's like someone hitting me on the back really hard.

Usually need to remind myself to drop my shoulders down, warm the area up, get a massage and give it all a good stretch out?

Going to try the relaxing shoulders, it could go back to injury and nerve pain actually, but it just had clear triggers so I'm not so sure about that.. Don't think infection fits.

Hmmm....

I haven't done the quotes right. But can't change them!

I was diagnosed a year ago with C-ptsd. I was living a nightmare of sleep deprivation and chronic stress at the time. I started having the pain in my head that you are describing. They are dibilating. Venoflaxine helps a lot

I get what I’ve always called spot headaches. Sharp pain in a spot the size of the palm of my hand that’s generally top to a side of my head. Only last 15-30 minutes and though it can effect my vision I find just holding pressure with my hand makes the pain bearable. They usually increase in frequency when my stress level is extra high and I’m not dealing with it. It has been known to bring me to my knees if I’m standing.
