Hi everyone,
I'd like to invite you to take part in my MSc research! This study examines the relationship between childhood experiences, relationships, well-being and intellectual capability in the general population. You will be asked to complete an online survey that involves several questionnaires and should take no longer than 20 minutes. Anyone 18+ years old can participate. There are sensitive questions. However, you can withdraw at any time without giving a reason. The survey is being conducted by Anezka Vlkova ([email protected]) and Bethan Amy Evans ([email protected]), supervised by Phil Reed ([email protected]). This research has been approved by the School of Psychology Research Ethics Sub-Committee, Swansea University. If you are interested in taking part in this study, you can click on the following link: https://swanseachhs.eu.qualtrics.com/.../SV_dhUUZXoxPGRO4PI
Your participation is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest an addition to the questionnaire: Have you been diagnosed with a psychological disorder or condition? Please specify.

Speaking as someone with PTSD from complex trauma, ADHd-c, and an amaaaaazing childhood. (All of my trauma history is from my adulthood). If only to know why your wacky outliers, are outliers, at best; so I/we don’t skew your research at worst.

Also, your IQ portion is entirely mathematical… & as TBIs are notorious for influencing maths… so as someone who completed trig & calc in middle school (age 12-13 USA), but struggles with basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division after a skull fracture? You might want to screen for post concussion syndrome, &/or head trauma.

Digging your study, otherwise. Best of luck to you.

Yet again the survey assumes that only men are domestic abusers. It would be the easiest thing to change mother/female etc. to parent or carer. If I were to honestly answer no to that question my answers wouldn't make half the sense that they do if I lie and answer yes. It's irritating to see this misconception perpetuated despite the overwhelming evidence that proves it's a fallacy based upon gender myths.

But what rules are there that state that these researchers can't change the wording?
Peer Review. If they’re specifically looking at ACEs effects correlations etc., they have to use the current wording/guidelines ACE uses.

These kinds of studies actually influence & provide impetus to change current wording/guidelines/understanding of the very element (like ACE) that’s central to their research. Whether that is, or is not, a target of their investigation. So it’s an added reason to use the gold standard as a core component, to find bleed through, bias, etc.
