Annoying Therapy Questions

What's the therapy question you find most annoying right now?

Why?

Have you told your T. that the question is annoying to you?

Mine; "So...what are you looking forward to?"

Annoying because: I NEVER look forward to anything. I feel like a failure when he asks me this. Like I *should* try to find something, but there's just...nothing. No feelings about anything coming up.

...and forget about planning. I *do* plan for my kids' sakes. ...and I can fake it well. Just...not having any real feelings.

I've not admitted this to my T. yet. I feel like I'm failing him. I usually try to come up with *some* answer but maybe next time I'll tell him. Maybe. But I'm not promising!

My beloved T is great BUT

'so why do you think you feel like that' HOW THE F**K DO I KNOW YOU'RE THE T

My therapist wants to make a plan of where I'll be in 6 months. I said, "6 months?". He said, "ok how about 3 months". I just looked at him. He said, "1 month". I continued to stare. He said, "Next week?".

He should just stop asking the f**king question!!!! Doesn't he know I don't see a future yet?! How can you plan for something that you have no faith in ever happening. SO ANNOYING

Most annoying therapy question: The entire string of questions about (in detail, please) my childhood/teen years and my parents psychiatric history.

Therapist: Were either of your parents nuts?
Me: Almond bread or peanut butter cookies?
Therapist: Do you have some pre-existing personality disorder I can report to the VA so we can kick your *ss to the curb like we have a lot of veterans?
Me: Sturgeon or Trout? (translation: Ahhhhh! You finally admitted that's what you're fishing for?)

Okay, that's not what actually gets said, that's just how it all makes me feel when some numbskull spends 90 minutes to 4 hours questioning me about everything from potty training to if my mother ever acted sad before they can come up with any idea of talking about what is going on RIGHT NOW and over the PAST 10 YEARS which is the reason I am sitting there in the first place. And then figures he/she can come up with a treatment plan without ever talking about anything other than my childhood/teen years except actual traumatic incident 15 years later! I always feel like curling a lip and commenting rudely "What a crock of ****!"

I did finally ask one point blank why exactly so much time was spent on all of these kidhood/parent questions. The answer i got was that everyone's childhood is important because it is what makes you what you are and so needs to be taken into account. I probably would have believed that more if the same person had not then immediately turned around and referred to the question as me being "defensive".
