You never know how violent these psychos are going to be.
I did. Every day my father would inflict violence on my family and terrorise. I lived the social practice at home and for many years being stalked afterwards.

Reality is that you are much more likely to be assaulted and/or killed by a member of your own family. I read the studies when I was at law school. I have read many, many studies on violence in our respective cultures.

On a lighter note but I think it has a point, I like the quote from the movie Life as a House:

I put a gun to my father's head once. Ever think like that? He was passed out. Had just been yelling at my mom over nothing. Under-cooked meat. I went to my room, I held the barrel right up to his ear, and then I chickened out again. Of course it was a BB gun but still it would have hurt like hell.

Yes, we're getting more suggestions on how we're supposed to arm teachers. Ohhhhkay. A policewoman from one of the inner cities made hash out of that in a big way, thank goodness- it's just not their training nor should it be expected of them. It's such a stupid, stupid idea that it's clear this argument is going to go exactly nowhere in a big hurry unless we as a country just demand BALANCE. Both fringes have to shush, already, stop pushing their respective agendas and meet somewhere in order to keep our babies from being killed. Right now everyone is just yelling, then congratulating themselves on what they said to themselves. All you get is bunches of people in seperate corners of a large room, shaking hands with each other and agreeing with each over there. In the middle of the room exists a large, unwieldy pile of coffins, the smallest ones at the top.

Are we ever going to completely disarm America? No (nor do I necessarily think that we should). But some serious gun reform is long overdue. And to those people who like to claim that changing gun laws will only keep the guns away from law abiding citizens...do your homework! Gun laws in this country vary from state to state. In areas that have stricter/tighter gun regulations there is documented proof of decreased crime rates. Elimination of gun crime? No. Significant decrease of gun crime? Yes. Sounds like a good start to me.

As guns become more difficult to get, the prices for them even on the black market or in criminal circles also increases. As the cost of illegal guns goes up, it absolutely (documented data results) does decrease the number of illegal weapons on the street. Decrease the number of criminals with guns: decrease the number of gun crimes and senseless deaths.

It's a pretty simple logic to follow with documented results, but so many of the pro-gun people like to make the false argument of gun laws only keeping guns away from law abiding citizens. The reality is, if one takes the time to think about it and look at statistics, the argument falls apart. However, the argument prays on the fears of too many Americans and they don't look past their fears to do actual research.

I think people are afraid of getting involved. For whatever their reasons are, most people will not get involved. They will stay out of it. There is a program in the US called what would you do? They set up scenerios where some outside involvement is needed. It is interesting because some people will get involved, and others will not. It is showing trends in civilization. There are still alot of good people who will get involved.

And also in the UK, they give gun licences back to violent criminals who have served prison time for violent and abuse related offences
Lets not get carried away with exceptions versus the rule. Accidents do happen, and one story doesn't make the rule, it makes an exception where someone got through an already tight system. Shit happens... and violent offenders are not just given gun licenses and such after the fact in the UK, not as the rule.

It did make me laugh when the NRA got on TV claiming the solution is to arm guards in all schools... ummm... was it Pennsylvania that same morning that had another four shot dead, and then to boot another 3 who were police trying to resolve the issue with the gunman? That kind of disproved the NRA's logic the morning before their speech... bringing a gun to a gun fight does not even the odds, it increases further deaths.

That is exactly what happened that very morning in Pennsylvania when the NRA later used their irrational, stupid, and idiotic logic to fix the issue.

The American people need to fix the issue... they need to look outside their country and see how other countries work without guns and with guns. Africa is a shit storm... you have armed militia and such running around shooting people at random. That is what guns do. America... you have armed militia and nut jobs, and criminals, all running around killing people, because guns are so readily available.

Americans need to push one way or the other IMHO... and stop being bullied by either the NRA or politicians, and force what the majority want.

'Shit happens', 'Accidents do happen'. Wow, thanks Anthony for making me feel like I'm not supposed to be remotely upset by that. Silly me, I must remember to not be traumatised or upset by the lack of justice I recieved and the invalidation of a psycho that raped me in captivity for 4 years and put guns to my head then getting his gun licence back. Yes shit happens and it happened to me.

Shell, it is one thing to be upset by your specifics, it is another to use it as the rule versus the exception, is my point, within an discussion about weapons and citing it as a point as though all violent offenders get a gun license in the UK after the fact. You know that isn't true, yet that is the perception you purported in your statement, and had responses to exactly that sentiment.

The above comes across as a pity party to me... as that is the equivalent of me blaming the military for all of my trauma and then jumping into any military conversation claiming military personnel are all evil, and the structure of militaries are evil. You get the idea... it would be a lie from me and it would be nonsense. Bad things happened to us, however; a minority is not a majority because we feel wrongly done or invalidated. That is an agenda... and I don't think its honest IMHO.

I did. Every day my father would inflict violence on my family and terrorise. I lived the social practice at home and for many years being stalked afterwards.

So sorry that happened to you (((((Ms Spock))))). Glad that, despite all of terrible violence, the consequences of which can cripple the child who grew up in that terror forever, you are pulling yourself out of it and are strong and brave and standing up for the truth.

'Shit happens', 'Accidents do happen'

((((((((ShellBell))))))))) so sorry you went through that horror . You have every right to be upset that this low life was allowed to get hold of guns, even if it was the exception to the rule in the UK,

It means that we must always ensure we are vigilant and have the processes in place to stop this from happening. Thanks to gun laws in the UK it is much less likely to happen. There is always corruption and mistakes. It does not make what happened to you invalid or take away from the horror, I cannot imagine how terrible it was and then the injustice afterwards is like it is happening all over again.

In the UK, when something like this happens, we would not have the NRA, a powerful political lobby that pays millions to politicians to support their argument that it is everyone's right to bear arms and we should now put more weapons into the picture instead of tightening the gun laws.
