I've been on this forum for some time now and although my partner and I have split up (he suffers with combat PTSD) I have realised that during his intense emdr therapy sessions, I as his only carer (his family are useless and not interested) received no official support or explanation concerning what I should expect from the fall out of his therapy and how to deal with it.
Fortunately I am about to qualify as a mental health nurse so had some insight but had I not had this knowledge and the support of my family, I would have crumbled under the pressure of the anger outbursts I was constantly subjected to towards the end.
My point is, as I will soon be qualified, I am thinking about contacting my local veterans society in Hampshire UK and offering to volunteer to establish a monthly support group for Carers and spouses. It would be very informal and purely a place to vent and seek support and increase knowledge regarding this illness and coping strategies.
Is there anyone on here in the south of the UK who would be interested in this?
