How Do You...?

I am interested in starting a new thread in which we can ask and perhaps share something we know that would help others. For example, I teach and parent. How do you get a kid to read more? I read a chapter book of high interest before bed. Then I give the kid a choice. "Read for 15 minutes, or lights out? Which would you prefer?" They always choose to read!

I am hoping someone out there can tell me how to get cat urine smell out of my carpet (g-g-g-r-r-r-r!).

Lol@ the cat pee :o. Although its not recommended mean green instead of regular carpet cleaning solution works pretty well. My new place had a horrid dog smell from the previous tenants and its gone now :)

Maybe I can get some potty training tips :)

I was never taught to brush my teeth regularly when I was a kid. I don't recall any bedtime rituals of this, or much of anything else with it. These days, I have too many cavities....

I hate toothpaste, and it was suggested I use baking soda, which I do sometimes now, as I don't mind its taste so much. But still, I HATE brushing. I'll think of it and say to myself, "Oh, not THAT now, later...." and forget. THis goes on for days.

I seem to recall some kind of trauma incident when I was a young child to do with toothpaste, but it's not there when I try to see what it is. (IT'S Evasive).

Anyway, I'm at my wits end as to how to MAKE myself brush my teeth. I just hate it so! I wish there were a flavor of toothpaste that I like, but I have never found one! (I live in the USA, if you have any suggestions on that last).

Kahlan, I let my son run around our house naked. We lived on the second floor in an apartment so I wasn't worried about people seeing him. That way, when he felt the urge, he could immediately go. Have to say it worked perfect for the poddy portion but not so much for the other portion. He just hated pooing in the toilet. This was some idea I read somewhere, I didn't come up with it on my own.

My second son took matters into his own hands. I guess he wanted to be like his big brother, so his adjustment to poddy training worked out well. Accept for the time he was about three or four and he managed to escape out our back door, we were living in a house. I looked out the kitchen window to see him peeing at the side of the driveway. Never mind all the cars driving by.

Bad mama? Perhaps. But they made it through their poddy training and don't seem to be doing too badly since they are now teenagers. ;):rolleyes:

It was easier when i could let him go pee on the tree in the back yard! Lol now I don't have a back yard and I don't think the neighbors would be too thrilled with nakiebaby running loose lol! He's become stubborn guy since we moved and swears he doesn't wanna be a big boy anymore...he's just gonna stay small. :s I might try that tho :)

@Sheila Barrera

Have you considered making your own toothpaste? I love DIY stuff. You'll find a lot of recipes and whatnot with a simple online search. Or better yet, a tooth cleaning product that doesn't remind you so much of toothpaste (maybe it has a different consistency, color, etc.... plus you could package it totally different than the toothpaste you see in stores.

Thanks, rainydaze, that is excellent advice! I shall look for recipes. Quite possibly there will be one that is healthier than store bought stuff.

I've got the same problem, Sheila. When I left home at 16, I had 16 unfilled cavities. I have pretty much conquored the brushing habit. Still don't floss. I dream all my teeth are falling out if I neglect to brush.Check out what Albatross does in her diary....

There are a lot of products at pet shops that break down the enzyme in the cat urine. The enzyme is the part that smells so bad. They are a little costly but they work and are a lot cheaper than a new carpet. If you check on the internet there are also a few home made recipes and an interesting tip I just saw. If you use a black light you can find the stain a lot easier to know where to treat the carpet.
