Does Anyone Else Struggle With Impoverishment?

@Karen12 a 10 room motel, which was also my home, all my belongings except what fit into 3 grocery bags and my purse. I even lost my meds at one point, and had to have the druggist confirm to my health insurance company that I was indeed black and blue from being beaten. Then and only then would they would they replace my meds. I was homeless for 3 years too. Not the best time in my life! Since then I got back on my feet and am in my own apartment now, which is under rental assistance from the government. I am not ashamed. I am not proud either, but I do share my story with others, so they know what I have been through and why I am poor. This is only to friends and sometimes folks at church that I share this. I figure if they know I how I got this way, by things that were beyond my control, then they will understand and they seem to. ANd they do seem to understand.

Ah - that is brave. I have to hide it - that's exhausting. May I ask how you pay your medical bills? (If that's none of my business please say so.) There is no way to do so on a fixed income under the federal poverty line. I have never understood that.

@Karen12 Are you blessed with more time in this financial condition? What free things can you now enjoy?

This made me so angry it has taken until now for me to compose a civil response. All I can say is that you are ignorant and I pray to God that you and your loved ones remain ignorant of what life is like for people like me.

is that you are ignorant and I pray to God that you and your loved ones remain ignorant of what life is like for people like me.

The actual denotation of "ignorance" is the lacking of knowledge. Some of "my loved ones" lost a country, their homes, our relatives, a way to thrive ...my Dad was born on a Native Reservation and my Mom's side fled from the Nazi Invasion.

I grew up in the ghetto and as an adult lost a business, my home and parts of my body at the hands of an abuser husband. That is just one of my stories. I stood in line for food and slept in my car...and to bring home that significance...it was towed with me in it !:clown:

So hey...judge on...

@[DLMURL="https://www.myptsd.com/c/members/recovery4me.26988/"]Recovery4Me[/DLMURL] - I am not comparing situations. You made some assumptions in your post that made what you said totally inappropriate, and, from my side, rather mean. I understand meanness wasn't your intent and I agree that you do not have all the information about my situation. I don't always share everything online. Still, you should have asked before assuming. I'll continue to pray that you never have to live the way people like me do. It's not what you think.

Back to the thread: if anyone else has slid from relative comfort into permanent impoverishment I would still like to hear answers to my original questions.

Still, you should have asked before assuming. I'll continue to pray that you never have to live the way people like me do.

Again stated? Which of my above statements are including you versus my take on things for self? Is this your response to my questions? Honestly, I would rather have your tolerance than prayers.

You made some assumptions in your post that made what you said totally inappropriate, and, from my side, rather mean

Clarity please on which statement that "you feel" was inappropriate and mean? I have been taught (by older members at this site & staff) that clarity & due diligence prevents knee-jerk reactions between those of us with PTSD.

Also, I just want to note that everyone has free time, so I fail to see why it was mean or rude. If you're impoverished and don't have a job and upset, doing something with that free time is actually not a bad idea.

Sitting and stewing about your situation does nothing else but drag you down further. Doing something with other people and that free time could just be your ticket to a better place. And if you state that's impossible, then you're not asking the right questions. You can act or you can surrender.
