Ptsd Resources In Toronto

That's what I was going to say tim678. Not cheap!

Honestly there are some good resources in Toronto. Again it depends on what has caused the PTSD. Childhood abuse, addiction, accident, violent crime, etc.. there are different resources for each. I may be able to recommend a few if you contact me on this site. I have A LOT of research just for myself, and I hope to someday help others start their recovery.

As an update, I have gone to each of these for help (or attempted to).

Dr. Scott Bishop is excellent at what he does. He is very expensive though. I have had probably 100 appointments with him .... then I ran out of money.

I was enrolled in the Mt Siani program several years ago. They closed it down the month before I was meant to be a participant. As an emergency patient who was identified as having ptsd, well, they didn't understand trauma at all. I was abused there. CAMH emergency understood trauma much better.

CAMH is good but their inpatient program was WAY too much for my symptoms. They are good at getting referrals to neurologists etc.

Women's College Hospital have some good programs as well. I did individual counseling there but found from past participants that many of the group therapies left participants ungrounded and people were wandering home messed in the head. I chose not to go this route after my individual counseling. The wait list is long as well.

I haven't been to Homewood but I do understand that it is VERY expensive. The fact that one is surrounded (as I understood it) by addicts etc made the environment random at best. Not good for people in the 'freaked out and very triggerable' stage of PTSD.

Individual hospitals (North York General, Mt. Siani, York Central and Southlake all had (in my experiences) a crappy understanding of trauma.

I am currently on a waiting list at Women's College for a group there. Yes the wait is very long. I currently have a great therapist, and if anyone is ever looking for one in the city I'd be happy to pass on her name. She has experience with dissociation and trauma which is what I wanted. However I still feel as though I'm stuck, and not going anywhere. I know I can't expect miracles to happen overnight, and it's going to take time. Ugh.. I hate that word.

If anyone in the Toronto area would be up for getting together for coffee somewhere I'd be happy to.

Hi there,
I'd be interested in hearing how your trauma therapy went and, if your experience was good, getting the contact info of your therapist.

Hi, I'm in Toronto looking for a good psychotherapist that is covered by OHIP and understands complex PTSD/childhood trauma. Are you familiar or anyone familiar with one?

does anyone know whether psychotherapy expenses can be claimed on tax returns? I've racked up a huge bill over the year and wondering if I can get some it back through some sort of tax benefit for medical expenses.
