Finally Sleeping

So after going without sleep so long that I was hallucinating and losing the ability to speak, my psych doc sedated me for a few nights. Then we added in Lunesta (3 mg) for a week, instead of the sedative. That week was the best sleep I'd had in many years. She and I decided to try it nightly for a while. I've been averaging a total of 6-7 hours of sleep a night, as opposed to my previous average of 1-3 hours. I am amazed by how much better I feel physically and mentally. The only thing I don't like is the nasty taste it puts in my mouth. Peppermint over-rides that though, and I'm not about to complain about something so trivial. I even had the energy to drive 120 miles to my dad's house for Easter lunch yesterday, and then turn around and drive home.

I'm glad you're getting the sleep you need, ShodokanJenn! :) Hopefully the taste issue will go away with time. I had a taste issue when I was on one medication. It turned any carbonated drink, even water, into the taste of iron. Ick. It went away after a few months.

I had that with Prozac. Really weird. Can't remember now if it was like iron, but it was really bad. If I ate at the same time as drinking a carb beverage, it didn't do that, though.

That's wonderful, ShodokanJenn. My psych doesn't like the new Rx sleeping meds and won't prescribe them. But I am not as seriously sleep deprived as you were. Are you still on Lunesta? How's it going now?

@hodge Thanks! I am still on the Lunesta and still sleeping well with it. I've gotten used to the icky taste, and it only lasts a few hours into the day. I don't have any daytime sleepiness from it, which is great. My psychiatrist isn't a fan of sleep medication either, but in my case there's really no alternative. Fortunately we have finally found something that works.
