Another Ft Hood Shooting

This is very sad situation. I saw one article trying to tie it back into TBI and PTSD. I hope they don't as we all are not violent.

My prayers do go out to the families at FT Hood.

Straight out of the terrorist's handbook. This will be pounded into the sand for a year. The Brady Bunch will be wanting us to ban everything, including BB guns, also right out of the terrorist's handbook. No, I'm not being disrespectful of the dead and wounded but unless I missed it, we're still at war.

They want it tied back to TBI and PTSD so they can disarm a sizable portion of the population. Probably out of the handbook as well.

I can't help but wonder if we kept our nose out of the middle east, if they would be going after us. Would 911 have happened if we had just told them to fight it out among themselves and then we'll give all our oil money to the victor? Which brings up another question, the UAE quietly funds these nut jobs, why haven't we gone after them? A number of the hijackers on the 911 planes were Arabs.

Then, there are the nut jobs here in this nation, in high positions, that just like to start wars just for the hell of it, think Iraq.

Yes, I know, oil. I don't know if anyone else saw the interview but there are those that say if we converted large-fleet companies, like UPS to run natural gas, we could be completely non-dependent on imported oil in two years?

It's above my paygrade.

The guy wasn't diagnosed with ptsd or a TBI.

He doesn't have any indicator of being in combat. Such as a CAB since he went from an 11 series mos to 88 series mos.

He was in Iraq for 4 months.... In 2011.

Ptsd and a tbi doesn't make someone injury and kill his fellow service men and women

It's a sad state of affairs. I know we could come up with a list of what could have or should have been done to prevent something like this. I don't know what the answer is except that a lot of people are dead or injured for no good reason.

Combatgoldfish,

My comment came from a news article from Defense One that reported he had self reported TBI and there was "speculation about whether PTSD is to blame..."

You and I both know what you said is the truth, but main stream media does not care. They want to sell newspapers and will spin anything to scare the sheeple. The more they do this the hard it gets for us. Luckly I have not seen any other articles speculating on his self reported TBI or PTSD. I do beleive he was "mentally unstable" at that moment. Remember that a serial killer by definition is considered mentally unstable.

There are those that are calling for stricter gun control and stronger security measures on base. I beleive if we allowed more individuals to carry onbase we would have highly trained individuals that are specifically trained to protect the unti for any and all attacks, foriegn or demestic. Isn't that what we are sworn to do???

Tough call. Are they going to deny hunters the right to have firearms? Military bases are like little communities all to themselves. Hell, Barksdale had deer hunting on the base reservation back behind the base. PTSD didn't exist back then, well, as PTSD. We had folks wig out but the Air Police always seemed to take care of it O.K.

Something has changed over the years. Back in those days (late fifties) you just didn't hear of this on military bases.

Pretty sad.

I've been thinking lately just how crazy the world in general has become. I wonder if these things went on and we didn't hear about it or there are a lot more people that have gone over the edge. I mean in general, not just in the military.

I remember getting drunk at an em club at Pendelton and was physically thrown out of the bar for being rowdy. I was way rowdy. They called the MP's, I started to throw rocks at them and was, well difficult to subdue. I think today they would have just shot my ass and been done with it. I think the police in general have a 'don't take any shit from anyone' attitude today.

Getting old and seeing this stuff isn't a good thing to me. And yeah, Sarge, it's pretty sad.

I think people respected people in years past bette then they do today. We have gotten ourselves into a personal isolation culture, where people no longer consider themselves a part of society. It seems the more laws we have the more laws we need. In the past if a child was disciplined by a neighbor the same child got disciplined again by their parents. Today if you try to discipline any child, Child Protective Services are called. I understand that in the past people took things too far and became abusive, but the new laws have not changed that. They only have change the attitudes of the sheeple.

I have been told that I am a bad parent for my 9yo have several pocket knives and his on 22LR. However, he knows how to use them, when to use them and the repercussions for misusing them. He knows they are tools and not toys. If we taught more from a young age to appreciate these things, would we be in the state we are today?

Not long ago if you got in a bar rrom fight you were repromanded by you next superior or by your CO. Today we admin sep people for bar room fights. Why? Have we truely taught them a lession by doing this or did we just move the problem to the next person?

When I was laid up in Florida with the ex-wife, trying to recover from my first bout of "what the f*ck is wrong with me?" I had to hire a guy to do the lawn. I just could not do it myself. He was wearing an AF cap, a new one. So I went out to talk and found out he had been discharged for not wearing his seat belt when transferring vehicles in the motor pool. I had to ask him again. Say what?

A bud and I developed a habit of spitting on the Brand New f*cking Parade Ground at Ban me Thuout, you now, made out of asphalt and painted green. Every time Sgt. Louis and I would purposefully walk from the mess to the hootch bar and spit right smack dab in the center of that closet queen marching ground. They'd parade up and down in their shiny helmet liners when the general wanted to say something. Louis had some real spit too. All mucousy and shit. Bubbles even.

One day the Colonel was walking by and we still put two big ones right one the grounds. He turned and walked next to us and politely asked us not to do that anymore. "You know how the general is, don't you boys?"

Did we stop. f*ck. No. When Louis got killed, did I? f*ck no.

I hope our behavior was not significant of PTSD. I guess in today's military, we would have been court martialled. They would have done that to Louis post mortem.

Guys that go shoot someone because of anxiety, depression, didn't do it because of PTSD. Otherwise, they just would have shot themselves. I like the psychiatrist who said whenever she heard of some kid killing someone because of PTSD, she thinks, nope, it's something else.

So we have to take care of each other and hope the OTHER guys don't go off on a killing spree. It's not us. It's not us.

Life is now cheap everywhere.........I am sorry to say! That was the first thing I saw in Vietnam. Hell, back then if you drove over a chicken it would cost $125 bucks. But if you drove over and killed a gook, it only cost $25 bucks....WTF but true.

Something else I want to throw out there. I'm sure there was things that went on in the past after WW2, Korea and Vietnam but we certainly didn't have 24/7 news coverage, social media, and internet back then to spread the news.

I think along the way in the last couple of decades a lot of parent lots the ability to raise a child right and people have gotten soft.
