Anybody Have Some Experience With Schema Therapy To Share?

Once schemas have been identified, how or what do you do/work through and what are the healthier schemas or modes?

Me and a couple others are taking a look at this. The other two have therapists, but I don't. Experiences appreciated, thanks.
 
Thank you for bringing this up. I have not officially done this but upon reading this sounds like it is something that I have been doing unconsciously. Yay for reading specifics from specialists. :)
 
The goal of Schema Therapy is to help patients get their core emotional needs met. Key steps in accomplishing this involve learning how to:

Stop using maladaptive coping styles and modes that block contact with feelings
Heal schemas and vulnerable modes through getting needs met in and outside of the therapeutic relationship
Incorporate reasonable limits for angry, impulsive or overcompensating schemas and modes. Fight punitive, overly critical or demanding schemas and modes. Build healthy schemas and modes

I missed seeing this thread sooner... I am actually a huge believer in schema therapy, and have something of a soft spot for it... so to speak... because it was the framework through which I first ever discussed my past and began to acknowledge and confront the reasons why I am the way that I am.

Filling out the standard schema questionnaire was the first truth I ever told about my past...

There's lots more I want to say, I do find this a very validating and logical and helpful framework, though it can seem a little confusing and bizarre at first glance. Will come back to this thread, but suffice to say, I can offer a ringing endorsement.
