Remember also never to use the oil neat, it has to be diluted into a carrier oil.

A good guide for massage blends is 1 drop of oil to ever 1ML of carrier oi, no more unless following a specific recipe. Half this quantity for children and the elderly, so 1 drop per 2mls of carrier oil, or less if a strong oil is being used.

Love this thread!

I wish I could bottle my natural scent, my love finds it relaxing. This thread does give me more insight as to why he is always sniffing my hair, arm, neck, or shoulders. I think more intentional aromatherapy would help him for his nightmares and anxiety.

I will have to read through this! Thanks for this resource. We are definitely all for natural stuff and I want to try some of these.

I tried to get to the store earlier this week, but today I'm going to go buy some of the oils you mentioned. I'm excited to see if this helps me :)

PTSDMama When using the oils on a child half the amount of oil used in the carrier.

These guide lines are for Adults, but I will gladly give you any help you need for its use on children.

I found a new one that doubles as a hair treatment, a hair dresser ran it through my hair to give it shine and I found it very soothing: Argan oil. Affordable and fragrant, my husband likes it too.

You may have answered this, but I haven't read through all the posts yet. I've heard that lavender should not be used for little boys as it can cause hormonal changes...??? Any experience with that?

I have not heard of that one PTSDMama, but I will research it for you. It can work in the opposite way you want it to though, as for some it can stimulate them instead of calming them.

Lavender can be a bit harsh smelling for some, I can only use it in creams and lotions, but well diluted.

If you are wanting something to help him sleep, maybe try the Hydrasols or flower waters instead. These are the waters left over from the distillation of the oils. Rose is a good one as is Geranium.

Hi Amethist, I bought some oils today! I got jasmine and grapefruit. I wrote several down from the lists at the beginning of this post, but they didn't have any of the ones you listed for anxiety. They are out of lavender and will call when they get more. Can you recommend any others?

Hi Piratelady

There are many oils that can help with Anxiety, but it depends on what you like the smell of and which ones work for you. If you can have a smell of the sample bottles in the shop it would be easier for you to choose, as we dont all like the same aroma's.

A few general ones are

Top note. Bergamot, Basil, Thyme, Mandarine

Middle Note. Geranium, Rosemary, Marjoram, Juniper berry

Base note. Cedarwood, Cypress, Patchuli, Ylang Ylang, Benzoin, Jasmine.

When you find one which helps best, put a few drops on a tissue, or cotton ball, place it in a plastic bag and carry it around with you.

For a bath to relieve anxiety try adding 3 drops of the following to an aroma free bath gel. Basil, Marjoram and Patchuli.

Grapefruit is an uplifting oil, but should not be used on the skin if you are diabetic. Even though you dilute it to use in the bath, or as a massage oil, it still should not be used.

Oils are used in perfume and all are top, middle or base notes. the top you smell first, then the middle, and the base lasts the longest and tends to be thicker than the others. when blending them you should only use 3 and one from each note level.

Hope this helps.
