Basic Grammar Rule Removed

I have decided, without any consultation from another, to remove the basic grammar rule, and instead change it to simply reflect: Do your best to make your post as readable to others as possible.

That removes all existing issues from many new members, and it is now a members responsibility to tell another member if they can't read, understand, or otherwise, something within another members post, instead of staff.

I see Anthony, it must have been hell for you. Others make mistake and you correct it. Now they make mistake and they correct it. Yes, Right! Speak for yourself and in best manner so at least people can get to know you.

I hope it still excludes "phone messaging" style. I won't be able to respond those kind of threads as they are so short and hard to comprehend. They also look hard to read.

That might make it easier for none-English-speaking members struggling with the English. I was one of them, but it has been very, very good for me to be 'forced' to practice writing better in English, and I'm very grateful when people correct me. So hopefully the new members on the site who struggle with the English will also see it as a possibility to learn more. There are good tools on the internet to learn more, like lexicons and google translate(but the latter one you can't trust completely though.. :D )

Because I was forced to practise my English more for almost one year I improved a lot in a big test(= I can use the result when I want to apply for an education at the University, so the test is really important).

Also wanted to, again, send a BIG thank you for this site, and all your efforts to keep it running. It means a lot to me!

Zaniara I see, you are forgetting someone as well. (Kidding about forgetting ;)):D I am also like you my friend. :)

I don't think you were forced. You were respecting this site's rule and you did very well with them as you were learning. Proud of you seeing that you have come so far in learning a new language.

My English got better since I joined this site. lol. Who would think about such improvements?  :joyful:

Personally, it's not posts by people whose first language isn't English that I find difficult to read generally. It's posts that are written all in one big block of text with no paragraphs at all (let alone a line break between them!), and posts which use a lot of text speak.

I really appreciate how time consuming and frustrating it must be for mods to constantly need to correct and monitor basic grammar though, and understand the decision to remove the rule.

No, there is no basic grammar rule... so members deal with it respectively. If you can't read a post, you tell the poster their writing is shit and they need to pay attention to it if they want answers, or you just answer it. Not staff concern any longer.

I hope it still excludes "phone messaging" style.
Again, no basic grammar rule. People can use SMS, whatever... if you can't read it, you have to question the writer to explain things. No longer a staff matter.

LOL, yeah, I am SO gonna be saying something for the big long paragraphs and text speak. It will go something like this.... "I am not trying to be rude, however, it is much easier for posts to be read and understood when they don't contain "text speak" and/or one big long paragraph. The more readable your post is, the more responses you will get. Thank you!"

Unless you're the caliber of Steinbeck, no, you can't master the "I'm gonna make my long paragraph just one sentence" thing. (I won't say that though, lol) And text speak is so hard to read...I honestly think my IQ temporarily drops 10 points when I am forced to read something that is full of acronyms and such. (Mainly complaining when someone sends me an email that is all "IRK/LOL/WTF/ETC" You know what I mean.)

Awww, great. Now everyone knows I am an American. You know how we appear to the rest of the world! LOL.

I'm taking bets as to how long it will take long term grammar rule abiding members to get frustrated with those who don't comply to the standards we have been upholding and just post with no structure to their content to assist readability. It takes me back to the traumatised brain and how content broken down assists this. I'll be watching this space with interest.
