I was not sure where to put this, but this seemed like a good enough spot. :)

I found these two articles (I think they are actually PDF docs) and I think they are very interesting, especially for us on here that have never been in the military. Anything that offers insight into a Veteran's world helps those who were not there, helps us try to understand...

from what I can see on the netbook they look quite good, will get them up on pc tomorrow....I'm quite fortunate that having been around forces from my teenage years onwards I have a good grounding in the forces mindset and that helps me identify conflicts between civvy/army thinking patterns, but sometimes I think it enables hubbys ptsd as I almost act as an interpreter for him with other peoples reactions to situations versus his reactions to situations...a bit like someone who moves to a new country and then doesn't learn the new language as there is always someone on hend to interpret for them......

TRANSITIONING THE COMBAT SKILL:
• OPSEC involves providing information to those who need to
know and trusting your fellow Soldiers. The “need to know”
now includes friends and family.
Action:
• Realize that your family needs to know something about your
deployment experiences.
• Tell your story the way you want to tell it.
Share with your significant other what you are doing, day to day.
Be proud of your service.

Battlemind training is good stuff, but more often than not, too little too late, since most times the Soldier (or servicemember) was already suffering (or the family and friends). Battlemind has actually been replaced by Resilience Training. If you google battlemind, it will now direct you to this site. Link Removed
Same concept, but more focus on being resilient, whether adversity is combat or not. Strength based, positive psychology. The Army was finding that more than half the suicides were by Soldiers who had not even deployed...
