Can Anyone Shed Light/ Iv Treatment With Vitamins/nutrients

I had this done for a completely different reason. @joeylittle is right, you need to have a full blood panel done and a test to check for vitamin levels that are not routinely tested for.

Something I think people in this thread should know.
1. This is not a holistic treatment nor herbal supplements. It is commonly prescribed medical procedure.
2. It is done under careful monitoring by Dr.s
3. It is done in an infusion center that also handles things like dialysis.

The first time going in is the longest. It can take a few hours which is a good thing. Prep is about 1/2 hour. You are hooked up to blood pressure and oxygen monitoring machines just like in a hospital. They may also hook you up to an Electro Cardiogram machine for your first time. Then they give you just a tiny amount to see if you have any reactions. They give you a list of symptoms to report right away.
Then is everything is all good, they give you the full does which takes about 15 minutes. And then when it is all done, they monitor you for about an hour.

I am all for naturopathic, holistic and herbal remedies, heck, I make my own herbal tinctures, but I do not consider this to fall into that category.

Vitamin and mineral deficiencies not only affect mental health, they can create mental health issues. B vitamin deficiencies especially have a huge impact on mental health. Certain minerals can have a huge impact on anxiety and sleep.

Why not supplement on your own?

It's the same deal with drugs. Good docs won't throw more than one drug at you at a time because they want to be able to see what works and what doesn't work.

An IV will just mega dump everything into your system. I'm SUPER sensitive to certain supplements, some of which are highly recommended for stress so it wouldn't necessarily work for me.

Also, since PTSD is an ongoing thing, chances are you'll need to figure out what supplements to take on a daily basis. Bombarding the system won't necessarily keep you on an even keel (although at first it may give you a good boost to get back to normal levels.)

I'd say you should be careful of a psychologist that recommends physical treatments that they just "read about recently ".

Agreed!

More agreed that its an IV treatment.

I'll call BS without even knowing what these vitamins are. Ive spent HUNDREDS on vitamins over the counter...HUNDREDS. All failed.

I decided to go research this, as it sounds like BS alternative medicine that never works. Apparently the one that "helps PTSD" is called "Myers Cocktail" which is intravenous vitamin infusion containing magnesium, multiple B vitamins. Apparently, its enough magnesium that would cause diarrhea orally.

For example, I know that B3 is given by shots for fatique and many swear by them. I have severe exhaustion as a physical symptom and though B3 never worked and I had enough in my blood that it was too much for the measuring system (999999.9999 type of thing) i was hearing "vitamin B3 shots worked for my mom. She went and got them every month". So i went off to another Dr and got them done. Waste of money. Did nothing.

If your body doesnt need it, it will do nothing or possibly make you sick. I would be VERY careful not to take viamins like that. My blood is normally very low on Vitamin D so I take a weekly perscribed Vitamin D pill but thats because I need it. If you dont need this vitamin, dont take it.

PLZ, Will you share with me/us about your EMDR? And any other Non-medicine treatment you have tried? THANX

It's nothing huge; I go to you tube and type in EMDR. There are a bunch of EMDR videos that pop up. I like the balloon one, green dot and white box one. I stare at the balloon, dot or boxes and think of the stressful things that are bothering me like a big paper, roommates, work, recent deaths. I don't delve into traumas cuz I'm sure I can't handle the effects but just take the foam off or bubbling over off of the PTSD stress cup so I can deal with life day to day. It really helps me. I have a safe place in my mind I go to if I'm freaked out. It really really helps me accomplish more and feel more stable but it's just day to day stresses I deal with not trauma cuz trauma is too much and I only do 10 min cuz more was too much. Hope it helps. I take regular multivitamins, and extra vit c to deal with stress, calcium for pms and extra vit b-12 for stress. I'm not sure they make a difference. I walk my dog, ground by all the amazing and wonderful grounding techniques on this site, deep breathe 5 min a day; in for 3 sec, out for 7 sec. Imagine myself at a beach, sleep extra if poss, pray, watch a church online I used to go to, distraction. Hope you find something that helps!

Don't take vitamins unless you need them. I've always had issues with high ferritin (despite my otherwise low iron diet) and IV'ing something like iron or even Vitamin C would be a big no-no.

@EveHarrington I have been learning recently about how anxiety can prevent the absorption of nutrients and fight or flights effect of the blood supply to the gastric system. I am not fully awake ATM or I would explain it better in more depth.

@lostforgottensoul make sure you are taking a K2 supplement along with your D3. Never take D2. K2 makes sure that calcium is properly distributed which oral D can interfere with unlike D that comes from the sun. Same thing if you are supplementing with calcium. Often vitamins require other vitamins to work properly. Just like Iron needs copper and citric acid.

@DissociativeBelle I'll trade you? I have near undetectable levels of ferritin atm and can't do anything about it until Monday. Twice I have had 2 bags of ferritin via i.v. but for you, it sounds like donating blood on a regular basis could help. Do you have hyperthyroid as well?
Vitamin C would be perfectly fine as it is a water-soluble vitamin. Unlike metals (Copper iron magnesium etc) and fat-soluble vitamins A D E and K. You can not overdose on Vitamin C nor B vitamins. Your body will absorb what it needs and the rest will pass through your system. Of course can get diarrhea from the excess passing through your system.

You can not OD on B or C vitamins. I would just like to repeat that.

@lostforgottensoul B3 really? sure it can help with energy I guess but via I.V. I have had niacin flush once and it sucked. I would never ever in a million years take it via i.v. while you can't od on it as it has a very short half-life in the body, those first 2 hours can really suck.
Never take if you have rosacea BTW.

Are you sure you aren't talking about B 12. B-twelve is usually the one most people are deficient in and it is given for energy. B12 is required for the production of serotonin and melatonin. It is the worst vitamin to have a deficiency in if you have mental health issues and it exasperates existing mental health issues and can cause psychotic symptoms. B9 deficiency is also a problem with mental health as a deficiency can cause anxiety.

Along with iron I am often efficient with b6 aka follate or folic acid. I have noticed a substantial increase in dissociation when my b6 is low.

Are you sure you aren't talking about B 12.

B12, thats it, sorry. Was taking handfuls and my blood was so high of vitamin B that it was too high for them to measure and my Dr said stop taking it.

The point was that if your body doesnt need it, it likely wont help.

As to the vitamin D, its a prescription weekly caplute, not over the counter. Apparently its enough by itself as my vitamin D in my blood went up and normalized.

I know what your talking about as ive taking a lot of over the counter stuff and taking this along with that to make this absorb correctly. The Dr said i didnt have to do that with this pill so i dont know.
