Well I think only you can tell if the event was traumatic because everyone interprets events differently.. However, it does sound to me like it was traumatic if it is still affecting you.

Your experience is a qualifies for criteria A. Meaning it meats the requirements of a qualifying trauma needed for a diagnosis. Not every one who has a qualifying trauma develops PTSD though. So you need to talk with your therapist to find out if you are having qualifying symptoms.

@fishstick123 - what was the intense childhood abuse that you mention in your first post?

My sisters would lock me and my brother in the basement and tell us their were monsters down there because they thought the way that we cried was funny

I don't remember much but I do know that my family was very emotionally and verbally abusive towards me and my brother, including each other, when I was a child

Therapy can be a very good place to work through those early developmental events.

Nothing you describe in childhood sounds like PTSD criterion trauma. But that doesn't mean it isn't some very real stuff to work on.
