Do you guys have a similar problem?
I have trouble finishing things, but it's been suggested that that's maybe an ADHD thing. I also have trouble STARTING things. I suspect that's got to do both with worrying about being able to do it "right" and also with priorities. Investigating the noise from outside seems more important than vacuuming. Besides, with the vacuum running, you can't HEAR noises from outside.

So, how do you "finish" things in trauma therapy? (Does this mean permission to kill people? :clown:)

Deadtired, it's good to see someone familiar with this approach. I had no idea it was controversial. Guess I lucked out with both my psychiatrist and reading. It's hard slow work but sometimes the progress zooms forward. I think what I started doing this weekend is push a little past where I'd normally stop. I'd finish whatever and then sit down and track & ground then start over. I accomplished so much and even remembered to eat today.

Actually it's allowing your body to finish responding to the threat. So yes, if killing the perpetrator helps, imagining that sceneries and feeling every movement in your body would be appropriate.

So that's the reason I almost never finish anything I start! I have trouble finishing everyday things and big projects. It's like I lose energy along the way.

I had never heard that theory. I'll tell my T about it and maybe we can work on it.

Peter Lavine's Waking the Tiger is a good intro to this. It's a quick read too. There's a newer book more geared towards clinicians that's good too but my Kindle isn't charged so I cannot check the title.
